I made use of the front plate holes put in by the fine folks in NJ.
I owned an alh as well before I bought a new CR(same motor as in your new passat)....I am willing to to bet that your "stalling" issue will be a non issue with the dealer. These CRS are way more sensitive to thottle and accelerating at low speed and lugging along like you can in an alh. I have NEVER stalled a stick in year till this gen VW....you gotta stabb the throttle slightly and you WILL get used to it and dont try to lug along in 2nd gear at super low speed....it will stall. Keep revs up a bit and all will be good with the world and congrats on the new Ride....Got mine 2 weeks ago (I ordered it maybe a week after it was announced), in red, highline, 6sp manual, sport, leather, everything except sat nav.
It drives excellent, and is everything I had anticipated the 05 Passat to be that turned out to be not so wonderful.
Picked up on the 15th, drove to Calgary and back on the 17th to break it in, and do some business, roughly 1700km. the onboard computer sez trip speed average was 110kph, fuel was 5.9 litres /100km. Had cruise set at 137 for most of the double lane stuff, the dash holds a radar detector very well, like it was designed for it. It's a very non-tiring car to drive, easy to stay alert, unlike some. It's also very quiet. very very quiet. Hardly any perception of speed either, so you really gotta watch that.
I'm happy.
The red is VERY dark, we were disappointed at first, expecting the color to be what was displayed on VW's launch site for the Passat, and turned out to be more burgundy than red, but it grows on you quickly.
Mine stalls easily. I intend to ***** to the guys at the shop about it, it's definitely not right, sure not tdi-ish. There has to be a fuel issue at low rpm, because there just seems to be no torque until it is a few hundred rpm off idle.
I'm not a fan of the pushbutton no key thing, easy to start the car for the wife on my way by (remote in my pocket), take off in mine, and leave her with no remote. It runs fine, drives fine, but don't stall it at a light, or you walk from there without a remote in your pocket. NOTHING in the car sez, "hey dummy, you have no remote along".
Other than that, it's been a nice purchase, roomy, comfortable for all passengers, not just the front ones.
From the long term perspective, it sure looks like it will be easier to work on than the last few. Stuff like fuel filter is out in the wide open, easy to grab and change.
It is interesting that I'm having 0 issues stalling this car, driving it just like any other stick I've ever owned, and for me it seems easier to drive relative to stalling potential. For me this is the nicest stick I've owned and I've owned a bunch.....Now my wife got home yesterday from driving it for the first time at length and said she stalled it 3 times, I don't get it, in any event she went back out for a drive and said she figured it out and did not stall again.I owned an alh as well before I bought a new CR(same motor as in your new passat)....I am willing to to bet that your "stalling" issue will be a non issue with the dealer. Congrats. Same color here. Platinum Gray with Moonrock interior. Mine is a DSG however... Wanted a 6 speed, but my wife although she can drive a stick does not like to unless necessary and I wanted to get something she was comfortable with so I can feel more free to take out her Tiguan once in a while...Platinum Gray....wasn't sure I would like it based on photos, but it is gorgeous in person, love it!
My 6 speed manual looks like it is around 1925-1950 RPM's at 70mph. Mine has the Moonrock Gray interior as well, probably would have preferred the black interior but the Mooonrock is nice too. I understand about the wife and sticks, my Golf was a DSG, convinced her to go with the manual on this one, she seems to be comfortable now that she has had a chance to drive it a bit this weekend. I really love the stick shift on this car, surprised actually as I prefer it to the DSG. The hill assist braking is very cool, takes away any worries on steep inclines, holds perfectly until you release the clutch. Also to answer a question asked earlier, mine turns 2200 RPM's at 70 MPH with DSG
This stalling issue is contrary to the answer I got a few posts back about being able to idle along in 2nd...I owned an alh as well before I bought a new CR(same motor as in your new passat)....I am willing to to bet that your "stalling" issue will be a non issue with the dealer. Obviously different thoughts/experiences here. I haven't had mine very long, but I have yet to stall it, and haven't found situations where I thought I was close to doing so..... and I have had it in 2nd gear at low RPM's(no throttle) crawling along in a parking lot without stalling, maybe things will change but for me I don't have to do anything different to drive this manual, it really is a very easy drive. This stalling issue is contrary to the answer I got a few posts back about being able to idle along in 2nd...
So which is it guys?
That is almost exactly what I got on my first 1/2 tank(topped off this week). Looks like these cars can do better too.1st tank with 47.04 mpg
Oddly enough, it rolls off the start like a normal tdi, just every now and again it's like the injected quantity of fuel lags behind what is needed.I have NEVER stalled a stick in year till this gen VW....you gotta stabb the throttle slightly and you WILL get used to it and dont try to lug along in 2nd gear at super low speed....it will stall. Re: stalling
I've driven literally everything, trucks, tractors, cars, cats, track hoes... This is the easiest to stall vehicle I've driven. The dealer may very well consider it to be a non-issue, but since it goes in for undercoat this week, we'll see if there is any sensitivity adjustment either on throttle input, or governor sensitivity. I suspect that at times, the hill hold feature is screwing me up- brake staying on as the clutch is coming on, and killing it. Letting the clutch off it will pull like a trooper, just every now and again, it seems like the governor forgets to govern and it stalls flat like it was driven by a noob, no bucking, no vain attempts to torque up, just falls on it's face like a gasser can.
Yes, manual cars are rare. Dealer in Stoon where I got it told me it is for sure the only red 6 speed in Saskatchewan. I've just had so much better results from manual trans in the long haul I figured it was worth it.
I suspect the stall issue may involve the clutch grab adjustment or worse yet, an errant electronic intervention...
Yes, there is a basic AUX-in located under the armrest along with a 12v outlet. Is there a Media-In for the SE-TDI? The instructions for this radio mention it would be in the armrest or storage compartment. I don't see it...I know in the test models, it was in the armrest.
We live on gravel roads. No undercoating equates to no underbody paint behind the wheels etc... The plan is to keep this one for a good while.curious....why the undercoat? My 7 yr old Jetta was virtually like new when I looked underneath after 7 yrs...except to be honest for a few bolts and a couple of exhaust brackets...panels were perfect as well....you did get a 12 yr perforation warranty as you know.
Mine also has an ipod connection in the center console armrest. You plug in the pod, and control it with the steering wheel controls for the stereo. Maybe only available on the fender stereo, dunno.Yes, there is a basic AUX-in located under the armrest along with a 12v outlet.
