Hey All,

Last night had to drive through some flash flooding and afterwards I heard a scraping from under the car.
This plastic shield was dragging so I pulled it out from the area of the gas tank and set it aside for now. Can anyone give me an idea where it goes because I had never noticed it before.

Thanks!

First thought was the air intake headlight cover or the side engine skirt that connects to the belly pan but unless it's broken i don't think so. i'm looking through my bentley. When you went through the puddle did you accidently catch someone elses fallen off body plastic lol?

That was my initial thought as well, but it's a VW stamped part-Haha. What are the odds it's another VW?

Honestly, I can't say I ever remember seeing that on the 2 wagons I've worked on! Found a pic for you though ;)

It's just a plastic fuel tank spare wheel well skid plate deal, moves stuff in the way out of the way *ideally* before it hits and dents the well there. Like the small ones that are on the rear axle beam/arm's that move stuff to under the spring and shock base next to your hub. In that picture they aren't there though. I can't recall if the wagons had them. May have been removed for that rear sway bar install.

Interesting rsb there....

That "skid plate" is aft of the fuel tank. Maybe to offer some protection to the spare wheel well.

Ok, you got me lol, my bad. What you said is correct. Those wheel wells are thin and malform easily. Not really sure what I was thinking there when I said that.

I'd put that in the plastic recycling bin, tout de suite, before you're tempted to put it back on the car.

Rare item. Only one i have is on the gti 2005. Never found one on the 50 or so ive meddled with. Chalk it up to barely usefull. Maybe at 100 in a windtunnel.
