I had the unfortunate (fortunate no fire) to develop a pin-hole size leak in the fuel line coming from the tandem pump to the metal fuel line running across the front of the engine (2004 Jetta BEW). I did have a warning, oily diesel smell coming into the cabin and from driver side wheel wheel. I ignored it thinking guess it was from the asphalt since they are working on the roads around the hose. Finally investigating, I opened the hood to find the hood insulator soaked in diesel and an oily film all over driver side of the engine bay. What a mess! When I cranked the engine and looked I was amazed at the precision size stream of diesel spewing from the small s-shaped hose. There was allot of fuel spewing out of that hole with authority. I removed the battery tray, air cleaner box and sprayed everything down with degreaser and hosed it off. New headliner is on the way! I followed the advise from the site and cut a small piece of 5/16 ( or 8mm) fuel line and made a small lop from the tandem pump to the metal fuel line. Definitely look into changing out those rubber hoses if you haven’t done it already. The diesel fuel even caused the bumpers on the steel braided lines from the brake reservoir to disintegrate. No telling what other rubber the diesel leak has compromised?
