Well, I figured before I took off the summer wheels that I would get a few pics of the wagon. No better excuse, right?
Here are a few "whole car" pics and a few highlighting some of my favorite exterior embellishments.
Here's the car:
And another shot:
One of my favorite "mods" was adding these retrofitted xenon projectors to the wagon. They are constructed with single OEM Audi projectors and ballasts, the stock turn signal, and black internal housing fit into stock Jetta headlight housings. The turn signals are smoked to match the housing, but are still visible. I decided to protect them with the OEM VW Lexan covers for use in Australia (lots of dust). I also like the hood guard. It makes my wagon look like a truck.
I made my own PD130 grille badge for the TDI, which turned out pretty nice (although it is very dirty, and at this point should be the PD150 badge , hehe). I regret using a GTI grille badge, because it didn't really fit, so I had to glue it in to place. For any others attempting this mod on a Jetta, I reccomend using the MKIV GLI grille badge for this purpose.
Before I purchased this TDI, I had been meaning to put these side badges on my old sedan. I guess it is a good thing that I didn't because I love the way they look on the wagon. The Hella comet side markers came off my old car before I sold it. I think they look much better on the silver versus the black car.
In May, I picked up these OEM wheels off of a guy's turbo Beetle through craigslist. 2 of the wheels were badly scratched, and I picked them up for a good price. I planned on stripping and polishing the wheels, but never got around to finishing the job. They are mostly stripped, and lightly polished. The lips still need more work, and it wouldn't huret to shoor for the "mirror" look next time. Also, the inserts came painted Tornado Red, so I painted them gunmetal, but it's kind of hard to differentiate from black. Hopefully I can finish them over the winter.
When I added the grille and side badges, I also replaced the Jetta and TDI badges with their stylish Euro counterparts. 10 minutes and some fishing line did a stellar job.
The tails are probably my favorite exterior upgrade on my TDI. As far as wagons go, there is next to nothing as far as aftermarket tail lights. i had always liked the way the smoked Hellas looked on the Jetta, but nothing comparable existed for the wagon, so I took matters into my own hands. I picked up a set of the Euro OEM "ocean" Jetta wagon tails. They are different from the standard American Jetta wagon tail lights because the turn signal is moved from the outer bottom corner to the center of the fixture (dead spot is US spec, filled as well) and made clear, but blinks amber. This required me to rewire the turn signal, which wasn't too bad. I then purchased some spray-on light tinter, taped off the turn signals, and went to town. The result was fantastic, and to this day I have not seen a set of wagon tail lights that I like better.
Hope you guys like what I've done.
