This new CH-4 rated oil can be ordered from Petro-Canada bulk plants. The part number is DUSYN54C12 for a case of 12 one litre containers. My local bulk plant offered to order in a case at $4.87CDN, equivalent to $3.06US. The phone numbers of bulk plants are in the phone book. This oil is not listed on the Petro-Canada website in the product line-up section, but under ”Whats New”. The average Petro-Canada gas station wouldn’t know about this oil. Compared to paying $10.95CDN plus taxes for each litre of VW sanctioned Castrol Syntec at the Stealer, Duron looks is a good buy and a good oil.
Petro - Canada - Lubricants - What's New
Here is an excerpt from the web page:
“Full synthetic without the full synthetic price.”
“Duron Synthetic exceeds the latest specifications beyond API CH-4, such as Mack EO-M Plus and Cummins CES 20076, and meets all the requirements of the new low emissions engines”.
Petro-Canada also has an excellent Lubricants Hanbook, a 1.6MB free download that answers anything you would ever want to know about lubrication.
Petro -Canada - Lubricants Handbook
This handbook answered my questions about the priority order of API ratings. Here is an excerpt:
"CF-4 FOR 1991 DIESEL ENGINE SERVICE
Service typical of severe duty turbocharged, 4-stroke cycle diesel engines, particularly late models designed to give lower emissions. These engines are usually found in on-highway, heavy duty truck applications. API CF-4 oils exceed the requirements of CE category oils and can be used in place of ear-lier CC, CD and CE oils.
CG-4 FOR 1994 SEVERE DUTY DIESEL ENGINE SERVICE For use in high speed, four-stroke cycle diesel engines used in highway and off-road applications where the fuel sulphur may vary from less than 0.05 per-cent to less than 0.5 percent by weight. CG-4 oils provide effective control over high temperature piston deposits, wear, corrosion, foaming, oxidation sta-bility and soot accumulation. These oils are especially effective in engines designed to meet 1994 emission standards and may also be used in engines requiring API Service Categories CD, CE and CF-4.
CH-4 FOR 1999 SEVERE DUTY DIESEL ENGINE SERVICE For use in high speed, four-stroke cycle diesel engines used in highway and off-road applications, where the fuel contents range from less than 0.05% to less than 0.5% by weight. CH-4 oils provide superior control over high temper-ature piston deposits, wear, corrosion, foaming, oxidation stability and soot accumulation. These oils have been specifically formulated for engines designed to meet November 1998 EPA emission standards and may be used where API CD, CE, CF-4 and CG-4 oils are required. Oils designated for this service have been available since 1999."
