I went with the 3 inch turbo back, it sounds great. Much more turbo whistle over the stock pipe with no cat and muffler

IDParts has a stainless cat back kit and also sells downpipes and high flow cats. Fabbed up my own 2.5" with cat delete off the stock dp, and a Magnaflow is going in this weekend to keep the fuzz off my back. I have maybe $150 total invested and extra pipe laying around for a downpipe someday.

i understand, i could get a 5 inch exhaust kit for my 7.3 for under $400. and why do you want a muffler? its a turbo diesel lol, however, my kerma exhaust did come with a resonator. i cut it apart at both ends and gutted it though. i will never own a diesel that isnt straight piped, i love the sound too much

it's my commuter and don't feel like dealing with any "drone". I hear ya though, no worries though, my 2 12valves and 1 common rail are straight out hehe

I like full flow but not the noise. An Aero Turbine is my muffler. Any newbs reading 'straight pipe' might be advised to check with the laws in "their" state. Straight pipe is not allowed in quite a few.

Also for any vehicle, check out the diameter coming out of the exhaust manifold. If it's 2.5 or 3 inch, a five or twelve inch diameter straight pipe is only going to flow at the most restricted point.

I suspect you already know this, but there is not much to be gained by working with the exhaust to increase power, but, is noise is your goal, you may be happy with some changes.

Right, i'm not expecting or looking for huge gains or alot of noise. Just something to compliment the overall air flow of the engine. Also right, your exhaust is only as good as the diameter of you turbine houseing outlet....not sure why some guys still think huge pipes are always better...must be an ego thing hehe

Kerma J-pipe

I just bought a new 2004 jetta and I got the Kerma 2.5" turbo back. It fit like a glove and sounds better then the 3" turbo back I have on my 2003. In the exhaust world people never compare apples to apples. I bought a diamond eye kit for my powerstroke plow truck and about 3 years later the whole thing was rotted out. It was 409 stainless. I will only run 304 stainless now.

You now need a boost gauge to watch for boost creep on your BEW ;)
