The remote start on our Passat hasn't worked since we bought it new a year ago July. I tested it out, then reviewed the directions in the manual again. My guess is it's turned off. Not really interested in turning it on, since we wouldn't use it.

Seat Memory Module

Just bought my first Passat, a '15 TDI. It has 8 way power seats but no memory, kinda retarded to have one without the other. Anyway, the dealer said they couldn't add this feature because the wiring is specific to factory installed options. Surely this feature can be added with the necessary memory module, ect. I've been looking into it but with little success so far. Does anyone here know of a solution or how-to?
Thanks in advance
(and I read this entire thread, if this isn't the right spot please let me know)

What model of Passat do you have? SE or SEL?

It's an SE
It will involve more than just a module - there's a panel on the side of the driver's seat that needs to be added plus software. It also adjusts the door mirrors as well. The cost is probably not worth the hassle of trying to do it, plus I'm not aware of any aftermarket add-on's that would do it either.

When your vehicle is locked, First push lock button again and in five seconds push start button. It took me a while until i figured it out. Now it works everytime.

Agree ! It's more complicated than it needs/should be.

Yes it is! I've only used it a couple times, only because I wanted to see it in action and not because I wanted to warm up or cool down the interior. With my GM Chevy Avalanche, it's easy. Just push the start button and it starts. When you open the door the engine remains running, but won't let you go anywhere or shift into drive until you put the key in - so no worries about someone driving off with it. Remote starts don't have to be complicated.

Where in vcds did you adjust?

Changed mine from 3 to 4 also, and it seems closer than it was, within 1 mph now vs 2-3 before. Might try one more change to 5 and see how that runs.
Found another tweak for instruments country code - changed it to Australia, and it did away with all of those annoying beeps. Had to change the units back afterwards. Will try it for a week or so and see if anything else weird pops up.
VWNorm, can you direct us to where in the menus you adjusted the speedometer impulse number? Thanks

Click on each of the Byte numbers in row 3) and you'll see the selectable options below.

In this case, Byte 0 contains the "Distance Impulse Number".
Passats are set at "3" by default I believe.

It took a little trial error to get mine right, and I can't remember off the top of my head as to what my final result was.

Anyone figure out how to have the orange turn signals off (until needed) when the headlights are on? I have the Chinese Audi style LED/HID headlights but I believe it's the same setup as the stock headlights.

Not sure if it's legal to have the front amber turn-signals off when headlights on are. I believe it's been required in the US by federal regs to have them on with the headlights for decades (since late 1960's?).

MK4 does not have turn signals on. It has very little bulbs in bottom of high beam.( is that what they call city lights?)

It's not really the turn signals. It's similar to the tail light/brake light difference. Same housing (often the same bulb with dual filaments), just a different brightness.

I agree that the law probably requires some sort of running light in addition to the headlight on each side of the car. My opinion is to indicate the width of the car in case a headlight burns out, so someone doesn't think it's a motorcycle coming at them, particularly if the burned out light is on the inside (left side for LHD cars)

Correct on the Mk4 Golf. You can have forward facing city lights, but you still need amber side markers for USDOT.

The problem with the Passat and all of these aftermarket lights is that the lights are designed to be plug and play with US light coding. In order to change the coding to some other country, you need to do significant rewiring. The front turn signals and parking lights are PWM on a single filament bulb, so you can't just unhook it to kill the amber parking light, because you will lose your turn signal, too.

The best option, if you want to do it right, is to pony up the money to do it *right* with OE lights (front and rear) from China, recode the body control module for Chinese lighting, and add the necessary wiring that is missing from the US car.

If you venture into the aftermarket, you'll find yourself at the mercy of whatever the manufacturer did to make things plug and play (and you'll have to deal with the amber parking lights). Also, you're at the mercy of whatever part quality they specified (often low quality in order to keep prices down).

And sorry for the very long explanation of why you can't turn off the amber parking lights on these aftermarket lights.

I apologize if this has been covered somewhere already, but all my searching has not got me what I'm looking for.

I have a 2013 Passat SEL TDI and a VCDS. I am trying to determine if I can measure the draw/output on the Aux Elect Cabin heater to understand if, or how well, it is working.

I have found the measuring blocks for the specific relays and can tell that it is making the requests, but I cannot find anything that lets me know that it has actually turned it on or if the draw is what it should be.

I hear the great comments from other Passat owners about how helpful this heater is, but my experience with it here is not the same. I don't believe it is working, or is at least not putting out what it should.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on where I can find these values in VCDS?

Thanks, as I've already installed the Audi R8 style LED's from Winpower I will just stick with these and deal with the big amber turn signals. Oh well !

Does anyone know if it's possible to delay the turn on of auto headlights? I hate pulling in my garage and having the lights turn on a few moments before I turn the car off. I went into central electronics- adaptation, "assistance driving light delay", and changed the value from 6 to 254, which I thought should have increased the delay to 15 seconds but it still turns them on almost instantly.
Also still on the elusive list is teardrop front wiping and fogs on with low beams (without using the switch) 2013 TDI SEL.

I have read on the Ross-Tech website the Passat does not have the option for the teardrop.

I believe teardrop requires the intelligent wiper motor, which the Passat doesn't have.

I know of no way to delay the auto headlights. I think what you're adjusting might be the corning light off-delay.

Fogs on in auto mode is still an elusive function. I believe the switch is the limiting factor since it can't be pulled out to the fog position in the auto mode (unless I'm remembering incorrectly).

The aux heater is only 1000 watts, which is about 3400 BTUs (about 2/3 of a standard home space heater). It really only boosts the supply air temperature by a few dozen degrees, which is a huge improvement compared to not having it at all, but it won't feel hot until the engine coolant warms up.

As others have stated, I don't think you can change the delay for auto-on, but you can for auto-off. I think I have mine set for 10 sec, or the shortest time available. I changed out my original headlight bulbs to Sylvania Ultras so I switch my headlights to the off position I'm parking in the garage for the evening so they don't come on in the morning at startup. The Ultra's lifespan are short enough as it is and I figure every little bit helps.

Does the Emergency Brake Flashing option work for the NMS? I checked the box, but didn't notice them flashing when I applied the brakes. Or does it only work when you stomp on the brakes?

It works, and yes. It has to be a panic stop.

I can vouch for it working during a panic stop. Driving down a Virginia country road one night around X-Mas, we crested a hill doing about 50 mph when we encountered three deer standing in the middle of the road. There was no one behind us to see the flashing lights, but they did indeed flash several times when I stomped on the brakes. The deer gave us a ***? look and walked off into the woods unharmed.
