So i just purchased a CUP edition 2 weeks ago from langhorne VW. Upon delivery i noticed a round spot about 4 iches in diamter of lighter colored paint on the hood. I mentioned to chris and he said sometimes moisture gets under the clear from the plastic wrap and to give it a few days to evaporate....and that the will note it in the delivery. Well its been 2 weeks of 90-100 degree heat and its been left out in the open parking lot for many of these days and the spot remains. So should I let VW paint it? Or should i just leave it and shrug it off? I hate the idea of a brand new car getting paintwork. I especially hate the idea of a second rate job and having future paint issues as well.

If you have the hood re-sprayed, it will never be as durable as the original.

A friend got a new CC last year and has this same condition, in a severe way, just behind the S/R. I don't know that he is going to be able to ignore it forever and it's not getting better 9 months later.

I think you've got to look at both scenarios and then decide just how bad it bugs ;) you, Mr. Ant.

i dunno i was going to ask about that. Thats the big downfall to having this color is that it has to come off of another cup edition car! Most dealers around here dont have any (hence why i went to PA) So having a lazer blue car on the lot is slim to nil

Do what I did from a blemish that wasn't my fault (bumper has a hole from a large trucks bumper) get an estimate, and negotiate a cash settlement. My damage exceeded $700 but the company's insurance deductible was $500. I said.. hey, save the claim, write me the check and we'll call this a day.

Company was actually happy to do this, had me sign a "I won't sue you later for backpain" document and I saved myself the hastle of dealing with a minor blemish that would have required 3 days of downtime per the repair shop.

I later put a couple scratches on the other side of the bumper myself so now they kinda match....;)

Any way you could ride down to Chris's place and have him do the swap? The chances of you getting a local dealership to do something like that are, well, like you said, slim to none.

At my local dealer, the new tdi cup edition they brought in had a completely different shade of color on the door. Since it's still on the lot they're trying to get it taken care of.

So if i bought one and there was a paint defect, i would hope the dealer would take care of it as it seems to be a somewhat common issue.

chris noted these cars are all coming to him with 30 miles give or take on them....He cant figure out whos driving them. What are the odds they are getting damaged? My car looks like a dent was repaired and they blended the paint in one spot and it doesnt match.

Can you post a picture of the defect?
I can't see anyway that the dealer can or will swap the hood. I think there are 2 choices- respray or leave it alone. I vote for leaving it alone- without evidence. If it turns out to be the best car ever, it won't bother your so much.
Personally, I'm starting to like used cars better than new. It eliminates the angst of the first blemish.
At delivery of my then new 03JW, at the walk around, I noticed 3 quarter sized dents on the top edge of the rear bumper. How that passed PDI was beyond me- said would be repaired. Ended up, the bumper had to be replaced. Resulting paint match was almost right and the clear guard on top was poorly applied, with fog and a few bubbles. It was the best car I have ever owned.

If it has already been patched and sprayed, I would have VW respray the whole hood to your satisfaction and warranty the work for as long as you own the car.

Is there any sign of damage on the underside of the hood, as in something fell on/struck the hood in transport? Most dealer body shops do good work.

My car came with two small blobs of pine pitch, one on the hood and one on the roof about two inches back from the windshield on the my side. I removed both with some bug & tar remover and waxed each spot with Turtle Wax. The one on the roof is hard to see. Only I can see the one on the hood unless I specifically point it out to someone. In my mind, it's not a big deal

Many people have bought vehicles from Chris, many driving several hundred miles for his good prices. From many people's reports, Chris is a reputable salesman. I'd suggest you keep working with him for a solution.

Our new Golf has a paint defect on the driver's side rear door. It is like something small got stuck under the paint. For now I have chosen to live with it because I don't want a mismatched door or crappi(er) paint on the car. Considering how poor my dealer's sales and service has been, I don't have much faith in their body shop.
Best of luck if they respray the hood.

I have the exact same round spot on the side of my car on the rear door of the driver side. At least it sounds like the same 4-inch round spot. I went to a very good professional body and paint shop and the expert owner said the defect was under the factory clear, so it must have happened on the production line. It is like they did touchup during the build. The owner of the body shop said not to try to fix the spot. He said it was better not to break the factory paint. He also thought it might fade after time, but he also said it could possibly get worse depending on what is actually under the clear. I decided to accept the spot and simply document the issue with the dealer in the event that it peels or rusts down the road. Honestly, I think it will be fine although it did bug me when I first got the car. My car had 7 miles on the odometer.

Drive more, have fun, and worry less.

hum... Probably a suction cup on the factory line. Like a greasy robot thumb before the clear coat :)

I'm guessing that the dealers aren't listing these defects on the pre-delivery inspection or when they receive the cars from the shipper?

I guess I am lucky the only "defect" on my car is the swirl/wheel marks the idiots at the dealer's prep shop put into the paint! I'm reluctant to complain to them though as I can only imagine at what they would do to remove them.

I have the same marks....black cars are alot work to remove swirls. Compound then compound with foam then glaze then hand wax. Lots of time and mess

Had two similiar spots on the door of my red JSW. Try taking a heat gun, or hair dryer, and hold it over the spot until it disappears. Worked for me. Never came back.

Am I the only one here that would refuse to take delivery of a car with either paint damage or body damage?

I work hard for my money and buying a $26K - $31K car that arrives "new" but damaged is simply unacceptable to me. The fact that dealers find this acceptable is even more strange. Maybe its just me?

After finally finding mine still on a ship headed to Alabama from Germany, waiting a month or more for the car to finally arrive, and paying about $600 to have the car shipped to my home in Pennsylvania, I wasn't willing to give up the car. I imagine I could have complained enough to maybe get it fixed, but the bodyshop owner paint expert really thought the better thing to do was to leave it alone and not break the factory paint.

These cars are not easy to find, at least not in the optioned form you want, so it would be hard to say no to the delivery of the car. I am happy with the car, even with the paint defect. I also didn't get the 12-volt outlet in the hatch area and I have no bag hooks in the hatch area either. I think my car is the only one in North America that doesn't have the 12-volt outlet and the bag hooks. Whatever, at least I do have my 2010 Golf TDI, 4-door, 6-speed manual, with xenon lights, Dynaudio, and the RNS-510. I wouldn't trade it for anything else right now.

this is the most pathetic oversight I have ever seen on a new car. This almost screams NO QUALITY CONTROL WHATSOVER! How could this car make it onto a truck, then on a ship, then thru a port without anyone doing anything about it?

Shame on Volkswagen!

Maybe because no one is saying NO!! Despite various types of damage for various reasons no one is refusing delivery so VW feels it can get away with this?

To put it in perspective, a little blemish in the paint gives the car "character" and "identity". There is no other like yours....:)

Hey, the cars live outside during the day (at least), so they are vulnerable to becoming flawed. I understand that it hurts, but a paint flaw is a lot less serious than a failed HPFP from "contaminated" fuel..

this poor red car is not a blemish or a paint flaw, this is an outright F#%@ up. A Blemish or Flaw is something minor and/or small in nature where one would hardly detect an inconsistency except from a close inspection like a foot or two away.
