These showed up on the wife's car today. Car is 2012 TDI with 54K miles.

Somethin about a reductant tank sensor. Anybody have any input? My search turned up one result on the Touareg subforum.

That would be a sensor in the AdBlue tank on the passenger side of the trunk. There seem to be a certain amount of sensor failures reported here on TDI Club.

Sounds about right from what I could gather. The Touareg guy said it was a $700 fix.... thank goodness for warranty!

So far in our 5 months of ownership, we will most likely have spent $2200 warranty dollars...

Verdict is in.

Bad temperature sensor in the urea tank.

Cost unknown. Warranty will cover.

Any info on the part number they replaced? Also, was this covered under the emissions warranty or extended warranty? If extended, what level do you have?
I am at 52k miles in my 2012 Passat TDI and have this code as well.
Thank you!

I have a 2012 with 94K miles, so I'm assuming I will have to pay out of pocket for this......

I believe so. I reached out to VW to see if the AdBlue system is covered under warranty and they stated that it is only covered by the standard new car warranty. It is not covered with a powertrain warranty or emissions, both of which you are passed anyway. Looks like this (tdi only) repair will take all of the money "saved" from me driving the diesel vs my old V6 gasser (non-VW) for this year. Oh well, things happen. Will wait until the local dealer has a service special until this gets brought in, until then, I will continue clearing the code.

Just an update. Dealer scanned and found (obviously) the same code and issue that I found using my Torque app and followup scan with VagCom. $315 labor and a $625 part. 561-198-970 is the VW part number. I emailed the dealer a few days before I brought it in and got an online price of $450 plus shipping for the part which they seemed to not want to honor but eventually did. I was able to have them take a 15% service coupon to a different dealer so all in it was $115 for the scan (typically reimbursed with other dealers for other brands when you get the repair done) and $700 for the labor/part. I still believe that this should be covered by warranty, especially emissions but after lots of research by me and VW (emailed customer care then went to the regional case manager) they determined that it is not covered. They still stepped up and helped reduce the repair cost so definitely reach out to them if it happens to you.

I'm glad your dealer worked this out, but still, a $700 repair at 52k on a 3-year-old vehicle isn't acceptable, especially since there's no indication, AFAIK, of an updated/improved part.
