Intermediate gear?

Our 2012 JSW TDI has been flawless for the last 11k miles, bought used in 8/2019 at 132k. Yesterday the MIL came on, scanned w/ VCDS, had P2015 code. Googling somehow turned up this video in German, which clearly shows the inside of the V157 motor.

I thought it would be a good idea to open up the motor to blow the dust out of it and verify its' internal stop is undamaged. That went well, but I now realize the intermediate gear spins in front of a sensor. Does anybody know if the clocking of the intermediate gear matters, or if it's just an RPM sensor to verify to the ECU that the motor is spinning?

Edit: Went ahead and reassembled clean V157 motor with intermediate gear in random position. Fabbed a stopper for arm using a 1/4" shaft collar & stubby screw. Tested with VCDS, worked fine laying on the engine. Installed V157, test ran & restarted engine several times, voltage stays at .760V target when sitting on stop.

To answer my own question: It doesn't seem to matter where the intermediate gear is installed. It just needs to read the RPM of the gear.

When my craptastic spacer fails, I'll be ordering the fix kit from Dieselgeek.

Yay! My turn with the p2015 code! Just a tick over 140k (50k of which are mine), so I suppose it's time.

Will be ordering from dieselgeek today!

I've installed my dieselgeek hard stop device and now it seems as tho the rpms on the car surge a bit like the flap is trying to find a happy spot and can't. This happens while driving in low rpms. Anyone else experience this?

The best idea is to start a conversation via email with us so we can send you the troubleshooting email. We ask for a good clear picture of the installed part and any other codes you might/may be seeing before or after the install. Don't respond here but to our email address as we do not regularly monitor this thread.

I just spent a while reading through this entire thread. I don't know why you were ignored; you were asking a legitimate, fair question.
I found a couple of potentials by googling "tdi 2.0 intake manifold swirl flapper arm". Might have a look at them.

As for the P2015, I also fixed it by making my own bracket from a piece of scrap metal and a screw.

I think for most people, the dieselgeek part is best, though.

Just did this repair on my 2014 JSW TDI. Both the VCDS and aluminum repair part have very inexpensive alternatives on AliExpress and Amazon.

The fitment for alternative parts is probably not as good as the Diesel Geek part- some filing and manipulation are required to get it to sit properly and to feed the screws through it.

After the fix, I cleared the P2015 code and it did not come back on immediately like it usually does.

I have the p2015 code on a 2009 Passat passed down to me recently. I was about to get the bracket fix. Thought I'd pop the bonnet to check where it goes and if its as easy as everyone says it is. Only to see a bracket was already installed by the previous owner. The bracket seems to be correctly installed. The engine light keeps coming back after clearing. Any ideas?

Hello again Alp -

As indicated when you emailed us, your repair bracket is not our genuine repair piece. We only provide support to those who purchase our genuine repair. A lot of the counterfeit brackets simply do not work. I suspect yours must fall into that category.

Believe me, I get it. Everyone wants the cheapest fix possible; but where does it leave you when you've got a cheap part that doesn't work and no vendor support? We offer a $64 USA made solution to a $1000 problem and stand behind them.

Sure. And my understanding is that the design for the bracket was originally Dieselgeeks.I don't doubt that the fitment for the cheaper clones are not as precise as your solution. But this clone definitely worked, since the car has been in my family for 3 years now with no MIL light. Ive confirmed that the previous owner, my brother, has no idea that the bracket existed.

I'd be happy to buy the Dieselgeek bracket if the issue is the current bracket on the car. But it could also be that the flaps are simply too worn at this stage (300k km). Is there any way I can confirm that your bracket will fix the issue? I have access to a VCDS nearby.

I don't think that's it. After 10+ years selling our original repair we are more confident than ever that it is a permanent solution to the manifold flap wear which causes P2015.

What about the guys who remove their flaps? Are those tuned out?
Its an option to tune them out using many of the common tuners out there. There is a good thread on the forums about removing and tuning out the flaps. Lots of different options if your not against making your car not stock. I removed mine with a CKRA intake swap.
