Hi There Guys,
In my nature to help.
Thought I would share this solution.
My ECU died, 2008 VW Golf, never mind, never found out the how and why's it died, did do quite a few jump starts.
So new ECU installed (from goingslow.co.uk, who where beyond amazing), with stage one map, IMMO OFF, but IMMO data transferred, to stop warning light.
But 17 fault codes later, cleared them down, to be left with only 3. ! 2 of which was solvable.
But stuck with P1640 ECU Fault - Permanent !
"So It is likely the car that the ECU came from had slightly different options. Maybe cruise control/ Climatronic module may be different or Steering wheel controls."
Not found any issues with controls etc, but VCDS can get rid of it and hasn't come back.
Car runs fine.
