our new/old '99 TDI beetle

Pretty clean, same color as mine!

Thanks for the compliment - but don't underestimate the powers of digital photography editing software!

Just kidding....no, you're right - the original owner took great care of her beetle. As a life-long gearhead, hands-on mechanical problem-solver, and all-round-tinkerer I am thrilled to have a new 1:1 scale Lego kit to work with. BTW, I was able to quite successfully "cure" a small dimple in the hatch by a 2-second repair: I transferred a magnetic decal from our Prius and voila - no more dimple! I love quick solutions.....:D

Nice Beetle! Looks to be in great condition too. Isn't it great when one finds a vehicle with a super original owner? My NB was also a 1-owner car who really went out of the way to take care of it...and it shows!

new beetle update: a/c successfully DIY'ed!

Cool! Literally.....

After spending some sweaty humid afternoons with the new/old bug, I've got a/c action - the Panzer Plate goes in next!

Replaced the compressor, receiver/drier, expansion valve, and all the various O-rings that are involved. Not so bad, mainly just grungy, and as usual; wishing that my hands didn't have to be so large.

I stripped the floppy headliner and it is now in our bedroom "curing" after I recovered it yesterday, used one of those online kits that included a can of adhesive and some acceptable foam-backed soft cloth fabric. That goes in before the Panzer Plate, I've been informed.

Great car.....I kinda like driving it without rear view mirror, visors, grab handles and all that other stuff in the way. Like riding around in a rally car or something. Not unlike my old 2-1/2 ton 6x6 multifuel in that respect....

Gotta get my hands on a '98-up Bentley book for this thing some day when I have some scratch to spend.

'99 beetle update: gearhead DIY pics

Volks, over the summer the new/old '99 Bug has had several "episodes" of shadetree DIY r&r's, and I wanted to post up some pics of the process.
I thought I'd consolidate all the wrench-work pics back in my "new beetle pictures" thread mainly because that's what my incredible ADHD powers told me to do!!
Thanks to all members who contribute their DIY lessons online - you are all great teachers!
