I just replaced my 2006 Jetta TDI (stick) w/a 2011 Jetta TDI (stick). I remember "DBW" recommending relatively high engine rpm, as well as relatively high shift points in order to keep the VNT turbo from carboning up. This new 140 hp engine is SO FAST that it's almost difficult to keep the RPM up with in the speed limit, especially in 6th gear. My 2006 only had 5 speeds so 65mph was about 2200 rpm. I don't mind using only 5 speeds if it means saving a turbo down the road. Does VW still use the VNT design? Any thoughts on this?

For all intents and purposes it is pretty much the same. The additional thing is the DPF (diesel particulate filter) usually functions best on a diet of say 2,000 to 2,200 rpms. There are sweet spot ranges. Now I think one thing that might get lost in the translation is you do not have to spin HIGH rpms. Just don't lug it. Since you are a previous owner, you know what I mean. So for long life NTE 75% (3,825 rpm) of redline (5,100 rpm) will put you in good LONGER term stead. This is about where maximum hp is delivered also (4,000 rpm). All the best. If what I have written is vague, fire away with the ??'s
