While testing driving..unlike my 03 Passat and the 2010 Jetta TDI Sedan the gas tank on a JSW has no release trigger in the driver side area. You have to click the panel on the gas tank out. Why is this?

Keep playing with it and I think that you will learn that the JSW's fuel door is locked whenever the car is locked (it's that way on my 2009). If the car doors are unlocked, so is the fuel door. If the car doors are locked, so is the fuel door. You don't need a locking cap (unless it's to keep others from putting gasoline into your diesel tank).MonthOLDpickle said:Guess I will pick up one of those locking caps than.
I always used to open the trunk instead of the fuel door! Even after 100,000 miles I couldn't break myself of that...mo_focus said:yeah the central lock locks the fuel door as well. I like the new set up. on my mk4 i forget to relase the door sometimes. this one is so much easier.
I think it'd work better than the older release. With the older setup, there was some sort of mechanism in there that released the fuel door latch. With the new one, I think that the act of pushing on the fuel door to get it to release would break up whatever small amount of ice managed to get in there. Just my opinion though, and we ALL have those!rickcrna1 said:With the push mechanism of the current fuel door, I have wondered if this design will be an issue to those owners living in very cold, icy climates where the door would be frozen shut. Would be a shame to have to pry the fuel door open because of ice build-up.

I always have a pair of leather work gloves in the car for fueling. Served me well for 270k miles in my diesel F350.BentJay said:Does anyone else carry disposable plastic gloves to wear when refueling. Makes it easy to avoid that overwhelming diesel smell!
As has been stated, locking cap is not needed. The fuel door is locked when the car is locked. I had the same initial concern. It's actually better design than the 'fuel-door release from the interior' design, although it does take some getting used to. Suppose you are standing at the pump with a locked fuel door...forgot to release it...you'd have to walk around to driver's side...with the '10 jetta design, you just unlock the doors and then open the fuel cover. At a full service station, you press the unlock the doors button (from inside the car) rather than pull the fuel door latch.MonthOLDpickle said:Guess I will pick up one of those locking caps than.
All "on road" diesel is required by law to be ULSD (in the US), so finding it is not too difficult. However, there are some fuel stops that do sell "off road" diesel (often called "red" diesel - because it contains a red dye) for use in tractors and generators, etc. These pumps should be clearly marked as "for off-road use only". Just avoid that and you will be OK.fleuger99 said:So are all gas station that sell diesel now selling clean diesel or are there some still out there selling the non low sulpher that one needs to be aware of?
New to diesel so I thought I'd ask.
Thanks for the info, much appreciated.JSWTDI09 said:All "on road" diesel is required by law to be ULSD (in the US), so finding it is not too difficult.
