Traded off Jetta this weekend. Wanted to hit 300k, but called it quits at 200. Great and fun car, was becoming too unreliable. Bought new Accord, not near the mileage but $3.20 a gallon helps. Would have considered new passat, but VW's failure to step up to th HPFP plate and other flaws detoured me. Traded off Sat night, they had sold mon morn after being closed Sun. Gentleman called and said he only bought cause of maintenance records, we agreed no one should buy a TDI without them. Happy motoring, Matt

Leaky IP

Hi all,
I'm new to the Omaha area as of July and I need some help finding the right tool or person to make the tool or just someone to fix my leaking IP. My car is a 2001 Jetta.
http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=368993&highlight=Fuel+leak
Above is a link outlining exactly what is going on with my IP. I haven't replaced any of the other seals like this guy had but I'm very confident it is leaking from the same spot he has marked (#2). The problem is I don't have the socket needed to get at the seal, note it is a special socket not manufactured but presumably able to be made by any capable machine shop. My questions are 1) does anyone have the socket I can purchase or borrow? 2) if not, can someone throw out the name of a trusted machine shop around here (Omaha) who might be willing to try to modify an existing socket so I can get at that seal. Or finally, 3) is there someone trusted in town who reseals IPs who I can take this to?
Thanks!

Have any of you found a trusted TDI mechanic/shop in our area? Also looking for a authorized shop to install a tune near by.

Lastly, any good body shops in the area that can be vouched for? The PO of my NB had some "issues" with crushing the rockers.

Thanks

I would say that we dont have a great TDI shop in town.

But Corky's should be ok and Cordell fix lots of MB diesels.

Finally reach the 80k mark.

I found a good mechanic in my town, Papillion.

It's called Papillion Foreign Motors. I met with them and had a long talk about VW diesels when I brought it in for an alignment.

Currently TDI-less, but looking for a favor. My wife's 07 Passat is throwing a code and am hoping to meet up with someone with VCDS to read the code. Anyone local in Omaha who could help out for a couple minutes, please shoot me a PM.

Thanks in advance.

Well I am looking into getting a micro can VCDS so I can do some stuff with my JSW. I live In Papillion if anyone wants to fork over some money; I could possibly do everyone a favor. Why is there no one speaking up for owning a VCDS cable in Nebraska or Iowa?

I'm in North, NorthWest Lincoln and I have a Ross-Tech VCDS or VagCom. I can read codes but I haven't done anything extensive with it yet with customizing some of the simple features on my car.

Sorry, I have one as well, sent PM to Campin and got him squared away.

On to other news....

Not a chance in hell I'm going to let them install that. Lol

In regards to the previous VCDS comment.. I have one up in Rapid City that I can bring with me on my every other weekly trips to Omaha/Lincoln area for paintball. More than happy to meet somewhere and let you do your thing. Shoot me a message.

Just wanna shout out to Ethomsen for being a great guy, and letting me steal some hours away from him ;). We turned on my day time running light MFI switch, Coming home feature activation, and Emergency Break lighting (hopefully I will never have to use it.) But he's a great guy and had a lot of fun to talk to!

Anyone notice the news from the Norfolk, NE area in the paper today? The fuel supplier for Casey's dumped diesel fuel into the unleaded gas tanks at six locations. Easily could have been the other way round (gas in the diesel tanks).

EEK!! Detrimental and costly mistake if any of us CRD peeps had of got a switcheroo tank like that. Thanks for sharing.

"Upon further examination" only three of the six stations affected were Casey's. Three too many. What is CRD? ( remember, I'm a TDi rookie)

Oh, Common Rail Diesel which is the 2009 + TDI's with the 2.0 motors that have the questionable HPFP (High Pressure Fuel Pump) that has been known to grenade a) on its own or b) after a misfueling incident.

Oh, I should have known that one. I definitely know about the HPFP.... wonder how many potential new VW TDi owners first found this site (or Vortex), read about the HPFP, and went immediately to the Suburu dealer!

I decided not to worry about it (yet). Just passed 17,000 miles and one year. Besides, VW seems to be stepping up to the plate after warranty is up... they no doubt have an upper limit (like maybe 80k or 100K miles) but I have yet to read about a HPFP failure that the owner had to pay for.

I do religiously save my pump receipts though. And, buy fuel at one place only here at home (Sam's Club) and one of three places on the road (Sam's if available, Love's Truck Stops, and Shell). All big enough to use their front-pocket money to pay for my engine in a case of supply mis-fueling like occurred in Norfolk.

Yeah, I haven't seen anyone have to pay for it yet either so that's good. When my DPF fails, I'll replace with Rawtek and RC1+ and add the pre and post filter kit that 2Micron has come up with and not worry about it.

Life is too short to worry all the time and I like my diesel too much to offload out of fear. :)

Not driving mine...son holed the pan and fried the turbo. Also found a damaged intercooler. Ouch!!!

Finally decided to put on a dieselgeek belly pan so I don't have to go through this again.

Decided to fix the broken lower grill and cracked paint on the bumper too. This is on my TDI Bug.

OUCH!! How the F did he do that??
He holed the pan by hitting a large rock on a gravel road in the Ozarks. He drove it long enough to starve the turbo of oil before shutting the engine off...only a block or two. You would think right after hitting it he would have stop to check for damage since this is the second time he's toasted the oil pan.

It was an 800 mile round trip to trailer it back home. I left at 7:30 pm the Sunday before labor day and got back at 10:30 am the next day...non stop
