Directions & Phone numbers again!!!

Here are the local motel phone numbers for those needing lodging and directions to the house.

Comfort Inn 800-228-5150

The Bluff Inn 573-785-7711

Holiday Inn 573-776-1200

Drury Peartree Inn 800-325-8300

Super 8 Motel 800-800-8000

Here are the directions for those who need them.

If you are coming from St Louis take I-55 South to Festus/Crystal City area, (exit 174 I think) then take 67 South about 120 miles to Poplar Bluff. Stay on 67 business/ Westwood Blvd, do not take any exits. About 3/4 mile passed the Dodge dealer; you will come to your first stop light. Take a left at that first light onto Katy Lane. Go up and over the hill at this point Katy lanes becomes Barron Road. Continue on Barron Rd to the first stop sign, (about 2.0 miles) then turn left onto Main St and go up over the hill to first stop sign (about 0.3 miles), then turn right onto Wilcox Road. Take Wilcox Road up over the hill (about 0.2 mile's) and at the first street to the right, (there is a yellow sign with arrows pointing left and right) turn right onto Avondale. Go past one house to the first street to the right and turn right. We are second house on the left. Look for gaggle of VW's and a White Dodge Magnum.

If coming south from IL, the NE area of the US, or SE area of US such as Memphis, take I-57 to US 60, and US 60 to Poplar Bluff, and if coming by I-55 go to the I-55 and US 60 interchange at Sikeston MO. Take the 60 West exit to Poplar Bluff, approx 52 miles. At the second Poplar Bluff exit take the second exit for business 67S/Westwood Blvd. Once on business 67S you will pass the local Dodge/Jeep dealer, proceed about 3/4 mile passed the Dodge dealer till you come to your first stop light. Take a left at that first light onto Katy Lane. Go up and over the hill, at this point Katy lanes becomes Barron Road.

If coming in from the south of town on Hwy 67N (as some of you AR boys are) Take the 3rd Poplar Bluff exit. You will see the local Dodge/Jeep dealer on your right at this off ramp, proceed about 3/4 mile passed the Dodge dealer on Business 67S/Westwood Blvd till you come to your first stop light. Take a left at that first light onto Katy Lane. Go up and over the hill at this point Katy Lane becomes Barron Road.

If coming in from the west, go to Springfield MO, and from there take US Highway 60 E to Poplar Bluff. It is all 4 lanes except about 30 miles of the 190 miles to Poplar Bluff. You will take Hwy 60 W to the intersection of 60 and 67 at that point you will take the first exit (60E and 67S) and head south about 8 miles. You will come to an interchange, do not take any exits. You will pass the local Dodge and Jeep dealer, proceed about 3/4 mile passed the Dodge dealer, till you come to your first stop light.

For those coming in at the north side of the town (everyone should be) and going straight to the motel, go past the first light and the Super8 is on the right, next to the McDonald's and you can turn into the McD's (easiest way) lot to get to Super8. Holiday inn is on the right about 1/8th mile past the McD's. The Drury and Comfort Inn motels are 1/4 mile down the road about on the left. The Bluff Inn is about 1/10th mile passed the Drury and Comfort Inn's on the opposite side of Westwood Blvd/67Business.

If you have any questions just ask.

Just a heads up. I have a dead Passat at this time. Serious wrenching is about to commence in the next week or so. If it is not resurrected, I won't be able to make the trip. Too many people with jobs, not enough cars. :(

Well I mad the 4250 mile round trip and now have my westy home. Drove it around some today and all I have to say is you better have a lot of time to travel. A good comfortable speed is about 50-52. I will be cleaning it out inside so its liveable and I plan to drive it to the GTG.

here's a copy of an email i just sent to info@rocketchip.com

I hope there aren't too many people hassling you, but no one on the OldNavy GTG thread has posted a definitive response yet. Many of us are wondering if you will be able to attend the GTG so that we can all get tuned. Someone had mentioned that you would need at least 10 people to make the trip worth the trouble. I only heard that number second hand, but we now have 14 people who have committed to purchasing your services. They are club members;

01 - Bad_Actor
02 - MrErlo
03 - KCTDI
04 - 40x40
05 - ensanity
06 - cosmic
07 - Bookerdog
08 - MJE32 - '05 Passat
09 - MJE32's friend's '02 NB
10 - TDI'Watcher
11 - woffie
12 - NitroWolf1 (prepay)
13 - NitroWolf2 (prepay)
14 - NitroWolf3 (prepay)

as taken from the http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=136505. If you will be attending, everyone on the list would love to have an answer from you personally. If not, I believe many of us will need to work out another way to get tuned. Please let us know so that we can make final plans for the GTG.

Thanks for your help,

I just got my TB change done by Deafbug, and he noticed my intake manifold is a bit cruddy down in the smaller passages.

If Old Navy has a pressure washer and maybe someone can show me how its removed I'm up for getting down and dirty with some elbow grease and brushes, otherwise I can use Deafbug's services in the spring if removing the manifold is a pita and not doing other engine work.

I think I can borrow a friends power washer and in back yard I have a concrete pad where that can be done. However it might be a lot less time comsumming, messy, and whole lot easier if you got Paramedick to just ship me an intake. I can ship your old one to him as a swap out deal. His intakes have been tank cleaned to look like new, and he has been doing this for some time and he has done it here at the my GTG in the past.

Paramedick charges a small fee to to cover the cost of having the intake cleaned and this is the only way to go in my opinion. You can switch out the intakes is an hour or less, the other way will require several hours, get you ungodly dirty, requiring a second set of clothes to change into for the work and then throw away when done.

I'll hope he gets his Passat back to life in that case. Photo opportunity of looking like 'Fudgems' the Dominoes Pizza character might be funny too.

PM the guy and see if he has a intake he can swap out with you and what he will charge for that switch.

If still planning on cleaning your own bring safety glasses. I will post your job in the work list.

an intake cleaning isn't hard to do

i had the KC TDI guys help me do an intake cleaning in June, it was pretty easy really. granted there were about 15 of us working on it, but it took about 45 mins to get out, i went with 3 other guys to power wash it out and left some others to clean the EGR while we were gone. bout another hour to put everything back together, definately less than 2.5 total.

if you are gonna clean it yourself, make sure to have a cleaner of some kind on hand. there was definately some crud stuck way on the inside that i couldn't get to with the car wash power sprayer. just get 1gal of BioD and you should be good to go.

Work List:

TB List:
As per MOGolf: B4's require: timing belt, timing belt tensioner, idler roller, serpentine belt, power steering/water pump v-belt, serpentine belt tensioner pulley. Optional is water pump as these last a very long time typically. Usually only the part with the impeller is needed, however if bolts break off then you're better off with the entire assmbly with new o-rings for mating to the block and thermosat. Replacing the entire assembly takes a lot longer than just the impeller housing. Some vendors sell the entire assembly for less than just the impeller housing with gasket.

1.) Jerry Stringer: TB on '97 Passat
2.) Kneebull: TB on '96 Passat
3.) mcolmsted: TB on '03 Jetta Wagon
4.) Bookerdog: TB on '02 Golf

General maintenace & trouble shooting:

1.) Cardinarky: vacuum problems? brake bleeding.
2.) Old Navy: Brake bleeding on Magnum. (maybe)
3.) ensanity: Door handle adjustment to prevent pulling off arms.
4.) marauderer: Provent install and TS Performance MP-8 power module and their Multi purpose display module to install on '05 CRD.
5.) TDI'watcher: Intake cleaning.

Has anybody heard anything from MOGolf lately? I sent him a PM to see if getting a fourth on the list was OK and haven't heard anything. I searched, and the last post from him on the board was mid-July.

Frankly, I'm a little worried... That's a long absence for him.

Last I heard he was working a lot of hours and did not have much free time, (very similar to Oilhammer)

MAKE SURE you have Qtips with you to clean out the ports after you remove the injectors. i did nozzles at the KC GTG (well others did them really, i watched) and we forgot to have some handy. if you could get your hands on some of those medical swabs those might be even better... you know, Qtips with longer wooden handles and cotton only on 1 end. also have something ready to clean the threads on the injector so that the nozzles willl fit in neatly. other than those 2 things, mine were a total snap. thanks again to NitroWolf and the crew.

I could bring the crude slide-hammer I made from a metric nut, bolt and (SAE :p ) weight unless someone will have something better.

98 Jetta. Count me in for a timing belt change also. I'm also going to do the water pump. I think this would be a good time to get the water pump changed. Already have all the parts, G12 and distilled water for the coolant.

We are really loading up the work list and I am not sure MOGolf can or will want to do 5 TB job's in one day. The general mantaince & trouble shooting has to be worked in also, however with two bays we may get it all done. I am here by closing the work list unless MOGolf says otherwise, no need to be working here in the garage until 2 am Sunday.

i hate to jump on the bandwagon late, but as long as we're working on doors....

my passenger door inside handle no longer works. to exit from the front passenger seat, you must either be let out from the outside, or roll the window down to reach the outter handle on your own. anyone had this problem before?

basically, i'm just looking for anyone who can help me take apart a door. i assume we will NOT be able to fix it at the GTG, but if someone can help me open the door to diagnose it and put it back together, i'll be able to get whatever parts and repeat the door dismantle when i get back to omaha.

i'll glady take a spot near the end of the list due to the insignificance of this problem, as well as my late request for help. thanks.

That's easy.
If it's a nice day we can do it in the parking area.
it is one of two things, unclipped hook or broken cable, hook is easy to fix at the GTG, cable may not be so easy.

I really don't want to do any work but I could bring tools. If anyoe wants to pull their injectors I can bring the slide hammer. I can also bring timing tools as well. With the Westy I will have plenty of room. Just don't want to weigh it down to much because it will already be a sloooow trip.

Also if anyone needs anything thing in the way of Cat filter stuff or injector installation kits let me know before hand.

I just found out that I won't be attending...arrgh...not even 2hrs away from me, and I can't go.

It's my alma maters homecoming, and I had already told the wifey, and the boys from the fraternity that I would be attending this year. I didn't realize until today that the two were conflicting.

Any chance on a spring GTG ON??? :D

Little early, yeah I know!
