anyone else want RC?

the time draws near... anyone else looking to get Rocket Chipped at this GTG? we were trying to get 10 people in order to convince Jeff to come down in person, and we've got 7 on the list so far. can we convince anyone else to invest in a big boost in power for a very reasonable price? anyone?

What does it cost to get chipped anyway? I tried emailing them but I hear they are very busy. I have an '02 Jetta.

How far off of I35 is Old Navy? Or how far away from St.L and major highways? Once I get my TB changed here in the next month or so, I should be ready for a chip. This might be the closest opportunity I'm going to get, and might jump on it. Plus it seems like all the finest folk will be out there, and I'm not attending Fest.
If you get 9, it might 'guilt' me down.
;)

Hmm, I35 to KC, 40 to St. L, 55 to 67 down to Old Navy's...

I don't mind the hours of travel if I'm not rolling through cow town after cow town. I think I35 for me to KC was 5 hours. Is it about 3 hours for ON to hit KC?

TDI'watcher, You're lookin' at 6 1/2 hours from the I-35/I-435 intersection in North K.C. to O.N.'s place nonstop thru St.Louis. I-70 to Wentzville, 40/61(soon to be I-64) to I-270, 270 to I-55 ......

Egads, all those MO 'highways' have stoplights or something? Or St.L have any form of bypass to miss the congestion?

I'd need a hotel on both ends rather than just the back-end. I guess I won't rule it out yet, maybe drum up a co-pilot or caravan to hitch up to somewhere.

Thanks for the local reality check though.

Hey, Sass!

Trying to make up my mind whether to depart Walt's place and drive to Newton, IA Saturday night. The folks at Iowa Speedway want me to come up and help them with the ARCA race on Sunday.

Can you give me a realistic time for the drive? Mapquest says 8 hours. If that's so, they're on their own. :p

Nope they are NASCAR style driving or parking lots.

I would suggest coming down Highway 63, you will make almost as much time as going down I-35 to KC. and at 55-65, you will get better mileage.

(I have driven to Rochester several times from Southern Illinois and Columbia MO, From here it is 12 hours to Rochester no matter which way, going up through Wisconsin on the interstate highway or 63 through Columbia.)

Check with Scott aka: sassyrel he should know he lives in IA and has been here 3 times.

I have not cleared this with Jeff, but if people are interested this could be an option.
can you run this by Jeff and then let us know how he feels about your plan? here's the new list...

01 - Bad_Actor
02 - MrErlo
03 - KCTDI
04 - 40x40
05 - ensanity (maybe)
06 - cosmic
07 - Bookerdog
08 -
09 -
10 - TDI'Watcher (only if we get 9 others)

it will be good know if this will happen or not, b/c with my Sprints i need to start looking at the VR6/G60 and installation. so that'll have to get worked into my "maintenance" budget. thanks woffie.

I think Iowa will have to do without me that weekend. A bit to far to help out for free. Glad I trained them right when I was there a few weeks ago! :D

Any updates other then mine for differential cover install?

Work List:

TB List:
As per MOGolf: B4's require: timing belt, timing belt tensioner, idler roller, serpentine belt, power steering/water pump v-belt, serpentine belt tensioner pulley. Optional is water pump as these last a very long time typically. Usually only the part with the impeller is needed, however if bolts break off then you're better off with the entire assmbly with new o-rings for mating to the block and thermosat. Replacing the entire assembly takes a lot longer than just the impeller housing. Some vendors sell the entire assembly for less than just the impeller housing with gasket.

1.) Jerry Stringer: TB on '97 Passat
2.) Kneebull: TB on '96 Passat

General maintenace & trouble shooting:

1.) Cardinarky: vacuum problems? brake bleeding.
2.) Old Navy: Brake bleeding on Magnum. (install new differential cover on Jeep)
3.) ensanity: Door handle adjustment to prevent pulling off arms.

ill add navy--if doing a water pump on a b4--replace that nut for the top guard with a helcoil--end of holding the nut in place--i did it--hole is right size--just tap--and turn in helicoil--as you remove the guard everytime the belt is replaced---:D :D

Hi Too All! If Jeff from Rocketchip will commit to coming, I'll add my '05 Passat and my friends '02 NB to the RC tuning list! The NB needs an intake cleaning as well if someone would like to tackle that job as well (he will gladly pay to have it done). Please let me know asap! Thanks - MJ:)

I can help, but I'm expensive! The cost is you have to get your hands dirty along with mine. That, and pay for the gaskets we use.

paramedick - Thanks for the offer! I'm sure he (NB owner) won't mind giving a hand but his hand's are BIG, so I'll just have to stand by and maybe polish my Passat as there won't be room for both of us! Thanks again - MJ:)

don't want to clog up the thread with this list again, but with MJE and their friend, that's 10!!! WOOHOO!!!

05 - ensanity (maybe)

09 - MJE32's friend's '02 NB
10 - TDI'Watcher (only if we get 9 others)

i think truman was the first person to suggest that 10 was our magic number. can someone let Jeff know that we've got 10 committed people? i dont have any contact information for him, but if someone has it i'd be happy to try to pursuade him on the phone or by email.

also, if anyone else wants to get on the list i'm sure that 10+ people would be even more convincing that just 10.

I have a good place in garage for Jeff to work, at present it has a big Dell PC sitting in the spot but I will be more then glad to move it or I will set up a 4' round table that is very sturdy. He can have it in the garage or out on the deck if he wants.

Old Navy, is the address 2610 as you quoted, or 2550 as per woofie? Though getting to the right street and seeing a fleet of TDIs would be easy enough. ;)

Mapquest says 11+ hours and 650 miles. I think I'll follow Paramedic's lead and crash the Super 8 for a few hours of sleep after driving the better half of Friday. I won't learn much alternating dozing off and having caffeine jitters...

Yes it is 2610. Also directions are posted on first or second page, also on the previous page I believe. I do my by 100 pages per view, so they are both on first page for me. :D

VR6/G60 labor ?

to go along with the RC2 (if we can get Jeff to come down...) i'm gonna need to get a VR6/G60 upgrade done. anyone willing to tackle that beast? this is my first TDI and i'm not foolish enough to try it on my own, but i'd love help out if someone was willing to do this for me. i'd pay for labor of course.

or, anyone know someone in the Omaha, NE area that would be willing to do this type of job? there is a VW specialist mechanic here in Omaha, but i'm not sure how much work he's done on newer TDIs so i thought i'd check here first.

With ULSD being more available, is a CCV or EGR mod less of an issue once the exhaust manifold has been properly cleaned?

If not, are one of the two a pretty quick install/modification?
