Man what's the deal, all these posting's and no email notification!!! Humm, wonder if local ISP has screwed up the email server again.

Remember you can never have too many pumpkin KK's. :D

Myself I don't eat candy, except Christmas fudge.

Low Saturday morning is forcast at 34*, but the garage is insulated and that includes the garage door, patio door, and the double pane windows. :)

Work list Update:

TB List:

As per MOGolf: B4's require: timing belt, timing belt tensioner, idler roller, serpentine belt, power steering/water pump v-belt, serpentine belt tensioner pulley. Optional is water pump as these last a very long time typically. Usually only the part with the impeller is needed, however if bolts break off then you're better off with the entire assmbly with new o-rings for mating to the block and thermosat. Replacing the entire assembly takes a lot longer than just the impeller housing. Some vendors sell the entire assembly for less than just the impeller housing with gasket.

1.) Jerry Stringer: TB on '97 Passat
2.) mcolmsted: TB on '03 Jetta Wagon
3.) Bookerdog: TB on '02 Golf
4.) Secret Squirrel: TB on 98 Jetta

General maintenace & trouble shooting:

1.) Cardinarky: vacuum problems? brake bleeding.
2.) Old Navy: Brake bleeding on Magnum. (maybe)
3.) ensanity: Door handle adjustment to prevent pulling off arms.
4.) marauderer: Provent install and TS Performance MP-8 power module and their Multi purpose display module to install on '05 CRD.
5.) TDI'watcher: Intake cleaning.

Any Oatmeal scotchies or Oatmeal chocolate chip fans? No nuts in them. I'll bake Thursday. Should fare better than 2 day old donuts in the car.

could be, i guess i'll find out this weekend. btw, just so i dont have to go hunting thru hundreds of pages of manuals, what manual and page number (if you can remember) was that in the photo? that'd save me some time i'd reckon.
That is out of my bentley, which I will have with me this weekend. We'll look it up then. Bring some sandpaper to clean the contacts

Well I may have a late entry.
My Kerma order came in off backorder.
Possible to do injector nozzles before chipping?
I'll be there at the ass-crack of dawn ;)

Edit:
It's a slushbox, no need for clutch work

I second that...

But then I said I was thinking about nozzles on the first page.
I knew better than to ask about a clutch job.

will anyone attending have the kind of cable/computer needed to program the ccm for the remote windows in my 05-06 mk4 jetta/golf ccm version 1C0 959 799 C ?

as for work i want to do, aside from getting chipped (golf ECU), whether i take the jetta or golf, i will have a few things to do:

if i take the jetta: pd134 oil cooler + 30k oil change (i'll bring my pela and oil/filter), possible ECU tweaking of jetta ECU + RC2 in golf ECU which i will bring

if i take the golf: pd134 oil cooler, frost heater, 20k oil change, panzer plate, RC2

Burpod-
I can help with the oil cooler, (I did mine last spring)
as for the window tweak, I have a computer, and can have software loaded and ready(if I can find where to get it), but I lack a serial vagcom cable.

Does anyone need the following-
OEM Alumimum Skid plate? (with hardware, Diesel geek sold these a few years ago) $150, new never installed, with some hardware, but not all I suspect.

OEM Jetta Tails? $50 (20k miles, like new)

OEM oil cooler? (Free) no leaks needs seal.

Might even be a couple of them thair fancy computer cables. :p

If you want to do the oil cooler, please be sure to bring coolant and a seal for the oil cooler. You will lose a fair bit of coolant even if you drain what you can get out.

I wish I had a couple of you with me today. No cylinder head yet, so I decided to do some of the other things that have been accumulating.

New Koni Reds have been sitting here. The fronts are installed with lots of new parts. No biggie, just tedious. Air tools made all the difference in the world. HF strut level made it easy to get everything back correctly.

Started on the rear struts. I have half of my rear seat interior disassembled with more to go. This is a major pain in the tokus. I'll finish the disassembly in the morning and get the rears installed.

See y'all Saturday morning. At the Super 8 Friday night, just don't know what time.

Woofie, bring me the oil cooler. Never hurts to have one on the shelf.

I have a pair of Hose clamps (big orange pinchers, but not cutters) I lost less than a cup doing my oil cooler, but make sure you have a half gallon or more. I went with the big oil cooler with the lines on the top, not the side, so I had to trim the coolant lines ~1" on each end, I have a pair of duckbill compound shears, but other hose cutters work better. I will try and remember to bring the line pinchers.

yeah, i have g12 coolant and distilled water and a couple clean gallon water jugs for catching coolant, and the seal for the oil cooler. i have my stock coolant hoses from the frostheater install and depending i might pick up some more if the bends aren't right

We'll try to get there earlier, if at all possible. At least there won't be much traffic out of StL at 4 am! :D

We might be interested in the skid plate...I'll check the bank account and let you know...

Man the chat hauler showed up today instead of next week with the first of two, maybe three loads of 1/2 chat for the driveway. Sure hope we have a rain tonight to help settle the stuff down, the driveway otherwise will look funny this weekend.

I wished he had waited till next week as my arse is beat from shoveling and raking the crap. At 62 I'm a long in the tooth to be doing much of that kind of work. I'll probably be bed ridden tomorrow and dragging my behind Friday & Saturday.

Hello to All - Just 5 days to go!:) I can hardly wait to head south from Des Moines. If anyone from this area wants to caravan, let me know via pm asap. Also, my buddy with the 2002 NB won't be coming due to his job, he is going to try to send me his ECU from California to bring along with me, so one slot (09) may be open for Jeff/RC. Later - MJ
I finally got a call from my '02 NB friend who is working in California this week. He will not be available or able to send his ECU with me to the GTG, so slot 09 is now open for sure. However, I will be there in slot 08! :)

I don't see where it will be any problem doing the chip job.

This is the midwest, the weather could be totally different tomorrow....
Yesterday it was sunny at 70, today it is 50, and there is going to be some frost on the pumpkin tomorrow.

Yet next week it will be back in the 70's

Tell me about it.
I think the freezing cold weather has amplified an issue my new-to-me TDI has. My starter motor does not like the cold. After killing the battery and trying to jump it for a good 20 minutes I was getting worried I might not make the trip. Its probably gummed up and doesn't want to catch. I'm not through the woods yet, but I did get it started finally with some help. Might not trust it in the cold untill it gets resolved.

Anyone worked on VW starter motors before?
I was shown a real good pictoral on Vortex of the fix if that would help.

I was hoping to learn watching others cars being worked on. Turns out my own may need some TLC.

Jason,

You should bring down the hose clamp tool(the tool I left behind) since your doing an intake manifold. The tool should make things go faster.

Well after spending a half trying to clean off 24 years of LA smog the westy is ready to go. All I need to do is throw in the sleeping bag and over night bag and I'm off. Plan to leave around 7am or so because I want to get there by 3 or so your time. I don't plan to run more than 50-55 efven though it will do 60 very easy now.

Thats way I have a good sleeping bag. No heat required. Had to put the winter front (piece of cardbroad) on her today. This morning at 32* it never moved the temp guage all the way to town and back which is 12 miles. But the cover did the trick and now I just need to watch to outside temp. Its funny this thing has a 4 gallon system and the heater turned on will drop the temp guage.

Well looks like we are about to kick off the big weekend, Gerg's bringing his "new toy" to show off and make some of us green with envy I'm sure. MOGolf will I'm sure, show up with enough tools in his Golf to make any VW TDI dance with joy, and raise enough eyebrows by newbies as to how he got it all in the car.
