Well it's time top start planning for the fall GTG. Linda has provided me the date, she says Saturday 14 Oct is the day.

As usual we will provide the food and drink, but if you have something special you want to bring feel free to do so. We have a gas fired grill and if you want to warm up something or cook something special feel free to do so. What we do is try to provide all the food and drink along with a outside porta-potty for the guys. The reason for this is everyone coming is generaly coming from 3 to 6 hr drive, and some may be 10 or 12 hrs road time.

More info will be posted later such as directions and motel info, this is just to let everyone know the date so calendars can be adjusted.

This will also be open to Jeep CRD drivers so there may be some new faces driving newer tech then VW USA. :p ;)

36*47'01"N

Work List:

TB List:
As per MOGolf: B4's require: timing belt, timing belt tensioner, idler roller, serpentine belt, power steering/water pump v-belt, serpentine belt tensioner pulley. Optional is water pump as these last a very long time typically. Usually only the part with the impeller is needed, however if bolts break off then you're better off with the entire assmbly with new o-rings for mating to the block and thermosat. Replacing the entire assembly takes a lot longer than just the impeller housing. Some vendors sell the entire assembly for less than just the impeller housing with gasket.

1.) Jerry Stringer: TB on '97 Passat
2.) mcolmsted: TB on '03 Jetta Wagon
3.) Bookerdog: TB on '02 Golf

General maintenace & trouble shooting:

1.) Cardinarky: vacuum problems? brake bleeding.
2.) Old Navy: Brake bleeding on Magnum.
3.) ensanity: Door handle adjustment to prevent pulling off arms.
4.) marauderer: Provent install and TS Performance MP-8 power module and their Multi purpose display module to install on '05 CRD.
5.) TDI'watcher: Intake cleaning.

I'll be needing my timing belt changed again on my 1997 Passat about that time. That is if MOGOLF is willing. :)

Barbara and I will be there with the BUG one way or another. Either driving it or trailering it.
Changed ALMOST all of the vacuum hoses now, and it still has psychotic episodes. Driving it is like talking to Anthony Perkins in Psycho. One time you start it, boom it is a rocket ship. The next time, nothing. I am going to check all of the hoses coming off of the N75 tomorrow and if they are all sealed, I'll order a new N75 from metalmanparts or tdiparts.
By now it can't be anything else, RIGHT?
Again, those hoses and the brake vacuum pipe should be preventative maintenance at 6 years or so. I bet there are a lot of TDIs out there that run terrible and could be fixed for less than $100.

Hey PARAMEDICK, its been 2-1/2 years since we tried to crush you under the BUG, by changing the brake fluid, out in the loose gravel, with shaky jack-stands, are you feelin lucky?

OK, Pat. But this time it will be on the ground, and the bleed will be done with a motive brake bleeder. I can't remember. Did we use regular brake fluid, or the blue? Whichever, get the opposite color. IMPEX and tdiparts.com have it.

IIRC, we checked the VNT actuator with the mityvac, correct? If so, that is probably ruled out.

Reservation confirmed at the Super 8!

Give the poor guy a break, he has cut back to once a year...:D

I plan on being there, with my obligatory car full of sctuff,
too early to say if I will need any work.
I have been getting good at doing it myself:
Upgraded oil cooler {installed this weekend}
Stainless steel brakelines (I will help with fronts only! Rears used to many 4-letter words! learned a few tricks to getting the air out of the lines, They take extra fluid from a standard brake bleed)
.681 5th gear (cheated had a shop install it) 50MPG at 75/80 :D
Intake cleaning, I will assist, but in october I doubt it will be as hard as doing it in January at 29*F

Speaking of intake cleanings, Paramedick you might keep a check here and do that swap out dirty for clean thing you did last time. Much easier and faster then doing a cleaning at my utility room sink or at the car wash.

Woofie will you be offering any chipping services? If so who was it you are with? Pricing?

Clean intakes/EGRs are available, up to a total of 5. :)

Be aware that I will not swap leaking EGRs or intakes with stripped threads. Those will have to be cleaned, so be prepared to clean your intake/EGR if you have issues.

I have a couple of leaky EGRs that were given to me last weekend. If I can do the Glen mod to them, they will be available for a modest fee.

Well Walt, I subscribed to your meeting half way approach this morning. I substituted Chivas for Orange Juice. I kept the Raisin Bran.
I believe, no I actually know, that I do feel better.
I'll report further, after my lunch and supper substitutions.
Also I now plan to join you in your KK Fiesta on the 14th.
How many kinds of KK are there?

Some things though just can't be substituted. I won't go into details, just leave you to your own thoughts.

Great Pat, looking forward to seeing you again.

Who cares how many different kinds of KK's, there is enough to keep any mortal man happy for years. :D

Woofie, the doritos joke was BAD. Depending on my finiancial state come october I might want a dorito. I will be there and I am quite excited. I have little to offer besides bad jokes and two hands. Dumb question I know, but how do you know if you need to clean the intake. I had Mike (kctdi) turn down my egr with vag and then I put a contraption designed after mikes on my EGR so it should not be adding to the problem.

I have never been to a GTG before and I'm not sure of the etiquette, but my 96 Passat will be needing a timing belt around that time. Can I get in line?

I don't know how these GTG's work. I was hoping someone experienced could do it. I am willing to help/get in the way. I am pretty good ast taking things apart; it is the putting back together that gives me trouble. I'm not looking for a free ride. I'll compensate the person doing the work. Do I need to bring my own parts? Belt, rollers, water pump etc?

Everyone gets in the way, whether it is their car or not. That seems to be the etiquette.

It looks like requests for 2 B4 timing belts as of this posting. Old Navy, if you could catch the threads with work requests and put a list in your original post it would help, and make a convenient location to find out what is going to happen besides the mass consumption of KK's.

I'd prefer that the driver's get the parts. There are several sources for parts. Your local dealers, www.worldlimpex.com, www.tdiparts.com, www.dieselgeek.com, www.ecstuning.com, www.autohausaz.com and a host of others. (Not listed in any particular order)

B4's require: timing belt, timing belt tensioner, idler roller, serpentine belt, power steering/water pump v-belt, serpentine belt tensioner pulley. Optional is water pump as these last a very long time typically. Glen has finally put me to work, I guess I better list my rates.

2 kk per hour. :D
That may be the rate, but factoring how much work per hour is done, vs. BS per hour, that works out to less than 1 bite per day.:p I'll be generous with the tipping. :D

Here are the local motel phone numbers for those needing lodging and directions to the house.

Comfort Inn 800-228-5150

The Bluff Inn 573-785-7711

Holiday Inn 573-776-1200

Drury Peartree Inn 800-325-8300

Super 8 Motel 800-800-8000

Here are the directions for those who need them.

If you are coming from St Louis take I-55 South to Festus/Crystal City area, (exit 174 I think) then take 67 South about 120 miles to Poplar Bluff. Stay on 67 business/ Westwood Blvd, do not take any exits. About 3/4 mile passed the Dodge dealer; you will come to your first stop light. Take a left at that first light onto Katy Lane. Go up and over the hill at this point Katy lanes becomes Barron Road. Continue on Barron Rd to the first stop sign, (about 2.0 miles) then turn left onto Main St and go up over the hill to first stop sign (about 0.3 miles), then turn right onto Wilcox Road. Take Wilcox Road up over the hill (about 0.2 mile's) and at the first street to the right, (there is a yellow sign with arrows pointing left and right) turn right onto Avondale. Go past one house to the first street to the right and turn right. We are second house on the left. Look for gaggle of VW's and a White Dodge Magnum.

If coming south from IL, the NE area of the US, or SE area of US such as Memphis, take I-57 to US 60, and US 60 to Poplar Bluff, and if coming by I-55 go to the I-55 and US 60 interchange at Sikeston MO. Take the 60 West exit to Poplar Bluff, approx 52 miles. At the second Poplar Bluff exit take the second exit for business 67S/Westwood Blvd. Once on business 67S you will pass the local Dodge/Jeep dealer, proceed about 3/4 mile passed the Dodge dealer till you come to your first stop light. Take a left at that first light onto Katy Lane. Go up and over the hill, at this point Katy lanes becomes Barron Road.

If coming in from the south of town on Hwy 67N (as some of you AR boys are) Take the 3rd Poplar Bluff exit. You will see the local Dodge/Jeep dealer on your right at this off ramp, proceed about 3/4 mile passed the Dodge dealer on Business 67S/Westwood Blvd till you come to your first stop light. Take a left at that first light onto Katy Lane. Go up and over the hill at this point Katy Lane becomes Barron Road.

If coming in from the west, go to Springfield MO, and from there take US Highway 60 E to Poplar Bluff. It is all 4 lanes except about 30 miles of the 190 miles to Poplar Bluff. You will take Hwy 60 W to the intersection of 60 and 67 at that point you will take the first exit (60E and 67S) and head south about 8 miles. You will come to an interchange, do not take any exits. You will pass the local Dodge and Jeep dealer, proceed about 3/4 mile passed the Dodge dealer, till you come to your first stop light. Go past one house to the first street to the right and turn right. We are second house on the left. Look for gaggle of VW's and a White Dodge Magnum.

For those coming in at the north side of the town (everyone should be) and going straight to the motel, go past the first light and the Super8 is on the right, next to the McDonald's and you can turn into the McD's (easiest way) lot to get to Super8. Holiday inn is on the right about 1/8th mile past the McD's. The Drury and Comfort Inn motels are 1/4 mile down the road about on the left. The Bluff Inn is about 1/10th mile passed the Drury and Comfort Inn's on the opposite side of Westwood Blvd/67Business.

If you have any questions just ask.
