I sent off a request to Shell oil, since Rotella T6 is a no go in our cars, the SAPS are too high. What I received was this from a Shell Chemist, says it meets or exceeds VW 507.00 specifications for oil.

So I guess there are other options out there for us, if you can find them. I was told to look for oil spec'd "Euro L"

Hope this helps. I still want to run a 5w-40 in my car, though.

The castrol oil seems to be ok. Total also sells a 507.00 oil, as does Mobil 1. I do not think it's possible to get a 5w40 in 507.00

I feel, like drivebiwire, that I can live with a MB 229.51 spec in a 5w-40 in my CKRA motor. Even the owners manual says a 5w-40 is acceptable in the oil change section specifications. My car will see lots of long highway mile trips, 300 or more at a pop, up and down mountain ranges in the heat of AZ summers. The added viscosity will be appreciated in the long run.

I don't think i'd ever run an oil that wasn't to a manufacturer's specs before the warranty was up.

Now when the warranty is up, then i'll see what's out there. I followed this logic with my 04.

Agreed, it is a bluetech engine anyways, I wouldn't even put VW spec'd oil in it. MB spec only.
