I just moved my car into the garage for the night, and noticed a bit more clatter that usual. Checked the oil, and it is about a half quart low. Any thoughts? Has anyone lost a significant amount of oil to the banjo bolt issue? where can I find VW spec oil to top it off? Thanks for you help in advance. This has me a bit worried/frustrated...

Your VW spec oil (507.00) is of course available at your local VW dealer (Castrol Professional SLX LL-03, 5w-30). Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30 is a 507.00 spec oil available at Pep Boys, but I'd recommend not mixing the two. Just go buy a liter from your VW dealer. Should be less than $8.00/liter.

I had the banjo bolt leak, the oil drip was forming but wasn't actually dripping onto anything yet.

Uber, why do you recommend against mixing the two oils? There are about 3,500 miles on my Golf, currently. The manual (states that oil consumption can occur at a greater rate during break-in...), and some more oil made me feel quite content. The banjo bolt has been found to be seeping on some cars. The tread is titled "Oil Leak" if i recall correctly. Cheers!
