hey guys one of my mechanic friends who has owned a few of these mk3 diesels had a look at my engine, and what he said was that i probably need to pistons rings because of excessive blow by. Oil leaks at the dipstick, just before the pvc puck, and the valve cover, car does use/burn oil im unsure of the amount because up until now i just topped up when needed but ill try and keep track of it now. I took this video to show just how much pressure is coming out. Engine is difficult to start when cold or hot, now that the weather is warming up i was hoping it was just a glowplug problem but would this severe lack of compression cause the hard starts and long cranking time. Vehicle also idles very rough around 900rpm and when i had the oil changed at a local vw specialist shop ( autobahn motors, they all have a funny german accent so its worth it;) ) they noted my engine as "running very rough" on the notes. Any idea are appreciated and if its rings, what kind? where to buy?

THANK YOU

So I called autobahn and they said It would be a good idea to change the rings so I ordered 4 boxes of these rings I forget what they were called but each box comes with 3 rings and is 38 bucks a box. Will update tomorrow with brand

I ask because rings broken inside the engine usually leave tell-tale scratchs on the bores from the sharp ends... whereas rings broken trying to hammer them past a ridge just look like broken rings inside smooth bores. :):)
