This week I'm going to have the aforementioned service performed, thought it a good time to change the oil. Been running schaffer 9000 in my 03' jetta and like it. Any input on the 13' jetta? Thanks in advance.

The Schaeffer 9000 should be a great oil for a deleted common rail. I've used Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30 and 5w-40, Mobil 1 5w-40 TDT, rotella T6, Delo 5w-40, and Mobil 1 0w-40 in my car. All with excellent results.

I have used Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30 when I had the DPF and continue to use it after removing it. I have excellent results with it so until I have a reason, I don't plan to switch.

FWIW!

All of those that you listed are Synthetic? So that way, I would like to stop going to VW Stealerships. :)

Yup, all synthetic. Maine winters can get quite cold, which is the only time I run the Mobil 1 0w-40(so far anyhow). I like that it comes in 5 qt jugs which is just right for an oil change. Mobil typically runs amazing deals on Delvac 1 5w-40 in 5 gal. buckets once or twice a year. I plan to take advantage of that special next time around.

I use the Rotella T6 in mine and the UOA numbers are excellent. Just changed mine at 100K yesterday and have been running for over 50K miles with no issue...

Rotella 15w40. $12.99/gal.

Isn't that for conventional oil? I've never seen T6 that cheap before. And wouldn't that be a little too thick for our cars? I always try to stick with 5W40 (for my climate, anyways).

Yup.

Maybe a bit gooey on a really cold start. I'm plugged in once it's below 50f. Free here. Ssshhh.... I juice up from a car port on timers... Apartment complex.....

Besides, 15w40 when heated around 200f is near water viscosity anyways. Bearings need some cushion.

I'd leave the 15w-40 for trucks, tractors, and cheapskates. Really no upside.

Why would you go too far from what's recommended by the people who built and engineered the car?

5w30 is what's recommended so stick with it if you're in a colder climate that sees temps below 40°F in the winter. If it's warmer say in a place like San Antonio or Phoenix then something along the lines of pkhoury's choice of 5w40 is good. The big thing that you gotta make sure of is that the oil is formulated to deal with the higher stresses of a Diesel engine. I believe the VW spec is 505 that was used in earlier cars.

When it comes to oil there's no better place to find info than bob is the oil guy:
