2010 VW Jetta TDI Cup Edition DSG
On a whim a few days ago I emailed Volkswagen of America's customer service - I was curious about the actual "official" production run of the TDI Cup Edition considering most places generally accept that there were 1500 built, while other internet sources say 2500 or 1501. I figured they'd just scrap the email and move on with more pressing matters but much to my surprise this afternoon I received a reply.

"Dear [1Guy1CupEdition],

We take pride in designing and building vehicles that will provide extraordinary ownerships for our family members. Knowing as much about your special edition is important, and I'm happy to help answer your questions.

While there isn't a production number that shows the order your Jetta TDI Cup Edition was built, I have verified that your vehicle was produced on December 24, 2009 in our plant in Puebla, Mexico. It has also been confirmed that your TDI engine was built in Poland, while your DSG transmission was manufactured in Germany.

Our records indicate that only 1,501 Jetta TDI Cup Editions were produced; 588 were manufactured with a manual transmission, and 913 were built with DSG transmissions. Listed below is a breakdown of how many were produced in each of the four color options:

Black: 579 Produced
* 250 manual transmission
* 329 DSG automatic transmission

Candy White: 485 Produced
* 171 manual transmission
* 314 DSG automatic transmission

Salsa Red: 251 Produced
* 89 manual transmission
* 162 DSG automatic transmission

Laser Blue: 186 Produced
* 78 manual transmission
* 108 DSG automatic transmission

I'm glad that you decided to make one of our special editions an important member of your family and that your ownership has thus far been memorable. I hope the information I've provided has been helpful. If you have any other questions for us, please feel free to call us at our Customer CARE Center at 800-822-8987. Or you can email us anytime at vwcustomercare@vw.com.

Drive happy."

So there we have it, folks. Straight from VW - official production run.

I wonder what the numbers are for the ones with the ThunderBunny body kit? I guess they are much more rare than I thought and when the Chattanooga VW dealer had 3 leftovers I should have bought one of them!!!

I was hoping to get the breakdown by option as well (kit, no kit, big spoiler, no spoiler, nav, etc.) but I would imagine that would've been a ton of digging for the poor customer service lady.

Interesting. Glad that we finally got these numbers. Thanks for finding it!

It would definitely be interesting to see the breakdown of kit/no kit.

Edit: Now I want to get rid of my black manual in favor of a red or blue manual, haha.

Quite amazing that I was able to find one of the rarest ones, and all by chance! Makes me love and enjoy my car that much more now!

Really neat to know thanks.

Ours is Salsa red with a manual and thunderbunny. Be curious to know how many had the thunderbunny.

Love the car though, rides a little rougher and makes more road noise but is a lot more fun to drive and is definatley better looking. One of the best looking factory cars.

I'd strongly recommend replacing the Pirelli tires. That will more than likely solve the issue of road noise and the rough travel.

Those tires are a major fault on the car. The moment i switched mine out it was a night and day difference.

I was really suspect of them too. When I worked in tires I never understood the rave about Pirellis, not many people were happy with them but wanted the nae because all the shows on MTV bragged about them.

I'm gonna wear them down a bit still, need to find some winter rims then next summer I'll probably put some nice Michys on it.

Thanks.

Be cautious with wearing them down as they not only cup badly but they're extremely susceptible to dry rotting. I dumped mine after 30k and put on Michelin PS2s that I scored a deal on.

Now I have a set of 17x8s with Michelin Super Sports :D

They are already cupped bad, i'll keep an eye out for dry rotting. The car has 30k on it now.

I might put some PS3's on it. She puts on a lot of miles in a day so I want something that wears decent.

I've had super sports on order since february for my other Jetta.

Well I would also like to know the number of Thunder Bunny's! grin Most of the ones I see tho seem to have it. I think it is rare for some one to have spent the extra for the Cup and not got the bunny on it! Only one prb in Driving a car that there's only 250 others that is everyone one Local KNOWS Who U R! So no Outrunning the cops or anything like that!

I saw several at the Chattanooga VW dealer that did not have the Thunder Bunny kit. But now that the front end is destroyed on my '06 from hitting a tire carcass I might want to go Thunder Bunny with it...

Is it easy to get a replacement? Our road is all torn up right now and every day my fiance goes offroading down it we both get a little worried.

I don't know... ECStuning used to have them on their website but do not seem to have it there anymore, or I can't find it, but I may call and check... I would think any VW dealer could order the parts...

Edit: apparently it is no longer available from ECS...

These guys seem to have a lot of them and they are even prepainted...

I've never purchased from them or heard of them, but found them on a google search and they seem to have the bumpers...

As I understand it, the Thunderbunny bumper is no long available, unless you happen to find a random dealer or parts house that has one laying around. Otherwise, you're looking at buying from the classified section on a forum. Don't hold me to that, though.

I think according to the provisions of the Moss/Magnasun (sp) warranty act auto manufacturers have to make replacement parts available for X amount of years. I think it is 10 or more, but I highly doubt it is less than 4-years. I would imagine that VW has to have the parts available for collision repairs or stuff like that...

When I bought my 2009 Jetta, I looked at a 2010 manual TDI Cup Edition for a similar price. I ended up not getting it because it was white. Maybe I should have! :eek:

Especially now that I know the primer used was gray. The rock chips in the hood really stand out against the black paint.

This is true, but I'm not sure it applies for such limited production items.

There was a discussion about it on vortex recently.

That 2nd link, call the dealership (Murietta VW) and talk to Mike. He's ordering me one for my recently damaged Cup car. They're unpainted and come with all grills; the side grills have the provisions for fog lights like the European versions.

I may add projector fog lights, or use the holes to route air to cool my front brakes.

I read the vortex thread and that sucks... I wish I knew when VW clearanced them I would have bought one or two!!! :D

At least someone has some available... I think with my claim will not be covering much and they want me to use a used bumper... so I will not be able to replace the bumper at this time...

That's bull****. Why in the hell are they suggesting using a used bumper?
