What a blast!!!

MAJOR thanks to Chuck from Metalnerd for his help! He not only helped me out with a lost wrench, but actually came over to show us how to work the brake caliper reset tool. He also stocked other NECESSARY tools (7mm hex bit) which I didn't have with me, to complete the brake job. A great guy who supplies great products for VW owners. Thanks again!

Re: Official Impexfest 4 picture thread

I second, third, fourth, fifth or whatever number I may be in the que here, the thanks to everyone who organized ImpexFest.

Lito, as usual, your organizational skills stand out again (although we have to work on your tent-raising time scheduling
). Mondo Thanks again for a great ImpexFest and you made it through without a trip to the EmergiCare Center.

Many thanks to Glen for helping me with removing and reinstalling my intake.

And just so that everyone knows, Glen did work on his car before he worked on everyone else's and he was so very thankful that the tent was available for him to install his replacement auto-dimming rear veiw mirror without having to do it under a blazing sun. Start time: 7:10 am; finish time: 7:15 am.

Eric, thanks for the ride and drive in "Das Uberwagen".

Thanks to Marit for picking my number for the second case of oil was I am down to only one gallon on hand. And no more cow comments about the Bug.

Thanks to all the folks who brought the great food, the cooks who prepared it and the volunteers who cleaned up and took down the tents.

Justin, thanks for getting the power washer and doing the dirty work of spraying the intakes and EGR valves. It made cleaning everthing alot easier. NOTE TO LITO: PUT SCUBA GEAR ON THE LIST NEXT YEAR.

Jeff, the AVS upgrade and Sprint 520s rock. Thanks.

And last but no least, Thanks to John for once again hosting ImpexFest, getting the two tents and being a gracious host.

I have already made my hotel reservations for next year.

John- don't thank me for a damn thing. If I had any control over the outcome I would've won the damn timing belt myself!!!

And I can no longer be thankful for avoiding having my picture taken

So I will just have to be grateful that everyone seems to have made it home safely

Re: Official Impexfest 4 picture thread

I just feel bummed that I couldn't make this. I've been TDY down here in Georgia for a few months now. I was supposed to make it back to N VA by May 1st but they wouldn't let me go (sometimes it's nice to be wanted, but not this time).

So looks like I'll have to wait til next year....

Re: Official Impexfest 4 picture thread

Every year we have this, there are the veterans who know what to do, where to go, and how to help. Each year we have so many newbies coming it can get overwhelming with questions.
Lito is right on the money. The TDI Club is blessed with a multitude of knowledgeable people who always seem to be willing to help out others.

I want to say a special thanks to Glen (MOGolf) for removing and then reinstalling my intake after it was cleaned. Even though I was prepared to try it under supervision, I feel much better knowing that you did it.

Thanks to Justin (oldPoopie) for going to the trouble of renting the powerwasher and then getting himself all wet spraying out the intakes.

[rant]BTW - If you used the powerwasher or said that you were going to clean your intake, you should see that Justin gets some money. He picked it up, returned it, and shelled out the $100 for it. There is no way that he should have to dish out any of his own money for this.[/rant]

It was nice to see some of the regulars and to meet a few new faces. I look forward to seeing everyone real soon.

Re: Official Impexfest 4 picture thread

Everyone, thanks for a fantastic ImpexFest! I had a great time as always, and it was good to see all the old regulars and some of the new folks as well. I hope everyone thinks they had a great time and plans to come back in the future.

I was happy to help a few of you out with VAG-COM stuff as always. Despite Mikey's jealousy-inducing $1000 car, I don't think I sabotaged his new door lock too badly. But most of all, I had fun just hanging and enjoying the day with good company. I'm very sorry I missed dinner! I'm sure it was a blast.

Lito: thanks for the organization as always, and I'm glad you weren't sick this year!
John and all the folks from Impex: Thanks VERY much for your space and hospitality!!
Dent-Wizard Guys were great for me, though I still need to try to buff out some of the paint marks/chips on my dings. Despite that, I think they did GREAT work for the price!

I really promise to try to make it next year. The East Coast (and beyond) TDIers have been very good to me, and I always have fun at these things whether I get dirty or not!

Re: Official Impexfest 4 picture thread

Stan,

We'll see you next year! Eric, sorry about forgetting your ride. I kept sending everyone over to look at your car because the scratch was still there with no dent.

You need to contact Tomo. He's going to get a "paint" guy to help him fix his trunk scratch. Maybe you can get your scratch fixed too. The "paint" guy is recommended by the Dent Wiz guys.

LOL

What a great picture! You reminded me about the Biodiesel guys!!

Thanks to Bill Levitt for bringing the 275 gallons of Bio-D. They sold out by 11:00am!!!! He was so happy to be there and couldn't believe all the TDI's in attendance

He was expecting to return home with Biodiesel and couldn't believe he sold it all and so early.

He said next year, he'll bring 500 gallons.

Re: Official Impexfest 4 picture thread

Got home around 7:00pm after a short stop over at Jeff's on the way. Fantastic time again this year. Certainly was a blast running down with Peter, Julie and D.J. (?..my hearing is getting worse). Then of course the great organizational skills of Lito were certainly evident. Thanks so much for doing it again Lito..you do a great job. Tomo, Jeff(s), Andy, Scott, Justin, J.J., Eric and wow so many "friends" I can't even think straight at this point. Dinner last night (Saturday) was wonderful. The beer was cold and big and the meal was so good I could eat another one right now.
Julie and Jeff, thanks so much for all the help with preping and cleaning and finishing the car. I'm real pleased with how it came out!! I've gotta find that site on the Web and make an order. Last but not least it was fun doing the car rides; however I'm still recovering from my ride with J.J. I had no idea the car could corner so well. Those fireman/ermergency types do live a bit closer to the edge than I do

Can't make the Cape Cod meet but hope to see you all soon.

Re: Official Impexfest 4 picture thread

Thanks to everyone who attended. I had a great time again this year. The dent wiz guys worked miracles with my car.

I do have one peeve however. I thought I had recieved a clear and definate list for intake cleanings.

Here was my last post regarding the intake cleanings and the pressure washer I was renting....
#1015482 - Thu May 12 2005 04:13 PM
Ok, the 3000 psi pressure washer is now on reserve for saturday. We will pick it up first thing in the morning, but it MUST be returned by 5:30 to avoid being charged an additional fee. The fee for the day will be approx $100. I'll be asking for everyone who cleans an intake to pitch in a fair share, depending on our #s. The $$ will be determined at the event, but it should be no more than $10 each intake.

I dont understand how out of 11 people that signed up, we only wound up cleaning 4 intakes. There was plenty of room, and plenty of time during the day. I posted the cost of the unit on Thursday evening, leaving plenty of time for people to update me as far as their status. I rented the $100 3000psi pressure washer on my own credit card, even though I did not need an intake cleaning, because based on who signed up, it would have been very inexpensive. I though it could be my small way to help out the goings on. Things didnt turn out so inexpensive... At the end of the day I felt terrible having to ask those who did use the machine to pitch in $25 instead of the $10 that I previously quoted, and I still only managed to collect $75. I cant say enough how thankful I am to those of you who did pitch in. I'm quite strapped for cash lately, and recouping as much as possible was much appreciated.
It certainly was an effective tool. I blasted clean a highly filthy egr without bothering to scrape it first at all, and it got it very very clean. Its too bad that I will NOT be offering to do this again next year. Perhaps someone will bring a pressure washer from home, though I doubt a home use unit will compare with the commercial unit we had on sat. Too bad.

Thanks to Jeff for the update to the software, I'll be in touch later this summer to install the head and vnt17.

I had a great time at dinner.

Home everyone got home safe.

Re: Official Impexfest 4 picture thread

I was not on the intake cleaning list, but would have had it done and chipped in. There were four cars under the tent from 9am till when I left at about 3pm. Were they the same cars all that time? If nobody left the area, it would be hard to get in there to do it.

For a fact at least 5 of the names of the list didn't even show up.....Marit wasn't going to do the job, so there you have it.....Happens all the time here......People making commitments and not doing the right thing.....Unfortunately this is nothing new.

Marit wasn't going to do the job, so there you have it
And it is a known fact that my mechanical skills are limited to checking my oil and tire pressure. Well, I can also give a jump start
And I think I could probably change my fuel filter as long as I had everything I need.

But I run a mean raffle

Re: Official Impexfest 4 picture thread

I asked around several times for people to clean intakes. Some of the cars under the tent were just parked there for quite a while, because nobody was around even asking about intakes. I beleive there was room under there right about 3, and we didnt all leave till about 8, so we could have done many more. Also, the weather cooperated, and we could have worked out of the tent too. Oh well. At this point, if you were a no show, rather than make a donation for equipment you didnt use, It would make me feel better if you donated a little $ to freds.

Re: Official Impexfest 4 picture thread

Justin...as I said Saturday night..that really sucks....not cool...and the fact IS it would have been cheaper for people to do it then (even at $10 a pop) being that no brake cleaner or feeding of the local car wash with quarters was required (that cost me more than $10 last weekend and did not do as good a job as the pressure washer at Impex from the example Justin showed me) to cut the gunk out not to mention the fact that you have experienced members that KNOW what thier doing, helping....on a different note...I hope all went well on Sunday with the TB change ect...and that your trip back was smooth sailing.

On another note...it was great seeing all of you at Impex...thanks goes out to all of the usual suspects

John for hosting and donating the raffle prizes
Lito for doing a great job lining everything up as usual
Merit for taking over the raffle and taking the "Git-R-Done" attitute with that
...also the Impex girl who helped her out with ticket sales (didn't catch her name)
Everyone who brought the TREMENDOUS amounts of food...(we could have been running that grill non-stop for 3 days I think and STILL had more meat)
Of course those who volunteered to run the grill....thanks to you guys for sacrificing your mingling time for the good of our stomachs

Thanks to Justin for splitting a room with me so I didn't have to drive home in the middle of the night again...that was NOT fun last year.
And thanks to Mother Nature for basically giving us a carbon copy of LAST years weather...you folks who wussed out because of the 20% CHANCE of SCATTERED thunderstorms need to buck up a little...also..don't forget...there is a TON of room inside Impex...if it were to rain and we could not fit EVERYONE under the tents it would NOT be a big deal...lots of room inside.
Ok..I'm sure I'm missing many others...I talked to LOTS of you and tried to give, and certainly received, plenty of tips and advise...can't wait to see you all again next year.

Re: Official Impexfest 4 picture thread

Finally getting back to normal after my drive back Saturday night.

Thanks to Lito for pulling it all together.
John for the hospitality and the cool discounts on parts/oil.
Thanks to MOGolf who was as reliable as a refrigerator, as always, helped a friend of mine back home with a TB job over the cell phone, 200 miles away.

Lots of great conversation, great food and cool rides.

Riding that Segway was surely a treat too – very addictive. (Thanks to our club member who let me try it)

Andy – glad to help on that rear brake job. Those caliper pistons can get real stuck but once freed, they spin in real nice.

Saw lots of old friends, made some new ones and picked up some new tool ideas and tips.

Lastly, thanks for your tool patronage.

See ya there next year!

Re: Official Impexfest 4 picture thread

By the way, folks... I am going to be buying one of those EGR/intake cleaning gizmos that was featured on Auto Week. You know, the one that injects chemicals while the car is running to dissolve all the crud out? I was thinking about bringing it to ImpexFest next year. A bit faster/cleaner than taking all those intake manifolds out.
