OEM Brake Pad Material

Does anyone know for sure what the OEM pad material is on a 2012 Golf TDI? I have been searching for awhile, and I have found conflicting information. The local dealer says it is semi metallic, some of the aftermarket shops (Oreilly,Napa, etc.)say OE is ceramic, and others say semi metallic.

I don't really care about the semi-metallic vs ceramic conversation, I just want to install the same type of pad that was originally on there without paying VW's outrageous prices.

I'm about to do the 60k service, and it probably doesn't need pads just yet, but I figure if I get them now, I'll use them eventually.

Front ones were manufactured by Ferrodo.
If you want the same pads without paying additional $ for the dealership, get replacement ones manufactured from Ferrodo.

^^I'm at 120K miles and I don't need pads. And I'm not alone. Maybe you should rethink getting pads at this time unless they're worn out. Why waste your money?

I'm pretty sure they are ceramic pads. I got about 100k out of mine. Might not impress the folks here, but the parts store people thought 100k was pretty exceptional.

I got 145,000 out of my front pads and rotors. Just replaced them with Zimmerman rotors and Textar pads. They work great, but are too dusty for me. Thinking about switching again...

Just did the 60k service this weekend, and the pads had plenty of meat left on them. Not surprised, the 50k service still had a lot left too. I would still like to know if someone knows for sure what the OEM material is. Has anyone read it on a box label or something?

I suppose I could call Ferrodo and ask. Although, I'm pretty sure the ones on there now are ATE on the front and Bosch on the rear.

When I was trying to find a oem pads for my cousins golf. I tried asking the dealer and the service manger said its manufactured by Ferodo. He even advise just to have it re-bond by Ferodo for cost efficiency.

I replaced my pads with wagner perfect stop pads. Wagner says they use OE formula friction material on the perfect stop line. They are "scorched ceramic" pads. Great pads, with an attractive stainless faceplate.

you may want to try the idparts house brand ceramic pads.

I did my fronts a couple weeks ago, and backs over the weekend.

I could not believe the difference while I had the mismatch.

my wheels have never stayed so clean.

I agree. I did my backs first then the fronts a month later. Could not believe the difference between these and the factory pads. Now the car stops.. Feels like with the factory pads, you would have been better off opening the door and dragging your foot.
