Nice work!

There is a whole different control module that will actually show the phone book and caller ID in the FIS, if you weren't aware :)

Though, it only works with a CAN based FIS cluster, and requires the TMC. Not sure if you're D/3lb or G/CAN...

I sure wish they would have offered a docking part compatible with my Moto Razr. Nice job otherwise. Keep us posted on that other module; possible part numbers perhaps?
(Yes, it's me again. I'm everywhere... )

Seemingly, you'd need one of: 3B0035729F, 3B0035729G, or 7H0035729 (The control module that is CAN aware)

Cradle: 1J0 035 705 B (I imagine this is exactly as was shown above installed in the middle armrest)
Phone: Nokia 6310i (Firmware 5.10, might not be importent)

It is confirmed to work with a 1J5920846C Instrument Cluster, which would mean needing the 3B0919894A TMC Tuner.

And, if you want to add the Steering wheel buttons to control the phone, you'd need the switch assembly (P/N escapes me), and the new Multifunction Steering wheel controller (1J0907487A).

Add wires, hours of struggle, and magic, then you get:

Seems the CAN aware controller has a K-wire connection too, which means it should be possible to code it to English.

Viel Spaß!

actually for cars that came with phones installed from the factory PR-9W9 there were only 4 cradles available 1J0035705A Nokia 3110,1J003705B Nokia 6210,1J0035705C Golf eGenerration Nokia 6210-6310 and 1J0035705F Nokia 6310i which is the only tri-band phone so the only one that works in N/A and all the interfaces and cradles where mfg by Peiker Acoustics.....now as car where set up with preinstallation PR-9W8 the inteface was mfg by Cullman/Paragon 1J0035729B which is a universal interface then all you did was purchase a Votex handy adapter for your phone of choice now the interfaces you mentioned are from a Passat 3BG and some PolosSeat,Skoda etc....which requiered a seperate VDA harness and none of my diagrams show it hooked up to any can-bus except a few seat and skoda models....what I'm saying what I have is the Pr-9W9 factory setup from the Golf/Bora that works in N/A I chose to install it in the armrest which VW stopped after 2001 on the Golf/Bora bc I didnt want a crackhead breaking my window for the phone plus its kinda of tacky factory mounted on the dash

I'm D/3LB but I also have an 2003 and have my left over can wires from premium radio which I believe go to the can controller on the cluster btw my cluster is a true 1J5920846A

cradle 1J0035705B wont work because it's for a Nokia 6210 and that phone is a dual band GSM thats why I used 1J0035705F for the Nokia 6310I tri-band phone and the only interface that works with that cradle was the 1J0035729H and yes the HW does matter each phone has different pinouts I tried to use the 1J0035729 interface didnt work because its for the Nokia 3110 for cars with telematiks

Well, it is possible to use the dual-band phone here, so long as you're ok with limiting yourself to just T-Mobile.

Yeah, to make this work is, well, certainly combining equipment from several brands/models in the VWAG lineup.

I never went to far with this because I had no intention of using an old technology Nokia phone. Though, there is some progress in the German forums on reverse engineering the CAN packets for the FSE option. And it appears to me that the progress is in the direction of using a bluetooth kit and AT commands to pull the address book. :)

If only I were keeping my Jetta, I'd probably have to dig deeper into this.

It's a shame that VW doesn't just use more of their existing parts as options for buyers here in the US. I think lots of people would love the OEM+ style upgrades we have to dig so hard for.

You're totally right. Looks like I picked the wrong day to stop drinking. ;-)

I'm confident, though that with some work, the right combination of stuff could be hacked together to make this work. A 6310i would likely work in 1J0035705B, only the factory fitted antenna would be tuned to 900/1800.

As best as I can tell, 6210 and 6310/6310i share the same pinout:

Perhaps this discussion is academic at this point anyhow.

true lol one question if I hook up the two wires I have left over from my convenience can from T32b/8 T32b/9 into my navi T26/13 T26/26 will it do anything?...bc thats the only difference between the passat with ver G is the TMC gets wired into the convenience can T32b/8/9 same wiht Delta 6 and the ver D doesn't

Nope, the T26/13 and 26 connections are part of the "Infotainment" CAN bus, which would contain other things like TMC Tuner, DSP Amp, TV Tuner, Telematics.

Certain TMC Tuner hardware revisions contain a second CAN interface, which connects to the "Convenience" CAN bus. These specific TMC Tuners (3B0919894A for example) would also contain firmware to act as CAN gateway -- simply doing some message translation between the CAN busses.

Later implementations don't require this gateway. (Think MFD2 in a Touarage, or RNS-E in a B7 A4).

Anyhow, this is the entire reason that those who retrofit the Navi in later model cars with Steering wheel controls (and/or retrofit FIS instrument clusters) require that TMC Tuner in the US -- won't work with the TMC data on the airwaves here (encrypted, thanks Clear Channel) -- but it will facilitate the communication among the various CAN busses.

If you are currently using 3LB connection to the cluster, then the CANBUS connection won't work as well - I believe you can only have one or the other.:(
