Man am I glad I don't have a Canadian model. That would be really irritating to have the odometer reset every 300 kilometers
. Sorry, I couldn't resist--see my sig line.

Hey, this is good. Put 30,000 miles on it and sell it as a low mileage TDI. ;-)

With Jetta/Golf A3 when you hit 300 000 km or miles it will reset to 0 except the TOTAL will disappear from LCD, so then you know that car has over 300 000 and not brand new cluster with 0 installed.

I wonder why it rolls over at 300,000? That's something like an 18.5 bit counter. Very peculiar. It suggests that it probably uses a 19-bit counter with some checksum bits thrown in for good measure.

Anyway, another 1.5 bits and VW could have safely gotten us over 1 million distance units.

Most german cars have this, BMW cluster will not reset but it will stop counting at 299 000 miles.

What about this: When you get close to 300,000 units, switch from MI to KM, or vice versa. Then drive past 300,000 in your preferred unit. Then switch it back. I wonder what would happen? A DTC for implausable millage

Cute idea, but I don't think the A3/B4 clusters can switch back and forth.

No, they can't. I think you can do something with jumpers and resistors, etc, but basically, you cannot change from miles to km with Vag-com.
