odis interface and software

Has any one used one of these diagnostic tools, and will it allow me to swap out my ecm in my polo tdi 2011 6r for a new one?
l got burnt on the net with a fake vcds controler and had to purchase a genuine one from Ross Tech after buying a fake that could not be returned(as l found out after).

The reason l ask is l was trying to swap over a used ecm into my car as mine is failing, and l have been told that only odis that has an account with VW can do it. Apparently according to this or soe other review vw has turned a blind eye to it as they are doing realy well of of it. Does any one know if this is true?

I wouldn't bank on them turning a blind eye. The penalty for using pirated software is up to $150k and 5 years in jail. In my opinion, that's not worth the risk.
On the other hand though, are you sure your ecm is bad? They don't generally just go bad, it's often a separate issue that makes people think it's the ecm.
