Yikes I am a bit behind posting here this month.
These two tanks were mostly 70-75mph on the highway, with some stop and go commuting.

Just got the Jetta Upsolute chipped today, so we shall see what happens to the mileage!!

Round trip from Owasso, OK to Arlington, TX. My wife and I on the trip down, brought my 16 yr old son back from a Bands of America competition. Trip consisted of approx. 96% highway, 4% city. A/C was on 70% of the trip.

Found gas gauge is accurate, used 1/2 tank. MPG would be higher but turned on A/C going to Tampa (about 3-5 MPG hit).
Computer said at 55 mph with A/C off 52 mpg, with A/C on 46-47 mpg.

As much as I would like to be in the 55.9mpg range I am stuck in the 53 mpg range. I saw on the sheet that you have me at the higher mileage.

Here are my results as of yesturday.

It gets easier...pretty soon, it becomes easier to ignore the people passing you, and your hands loosen from the wheel as the stress melts away.

I still have relapses from time to time, but for the most part, I just consider a constant stream of cars going around me to be normal now.

Hey Mike,

here's my soot blowing tank (after the 1000mile tank I started acting my age for a while. Not good for the mileage, good for the car)

10/05/05: 48387
10/15/05: 49260 (873.0mi); 14.859gal
_________
873mi/14.859gal = 58.75mpg.

I can live with that (for a soot blower)

Doing better than last month, but drove like a granny for most of it. It was madenning doing 59.5 mph in the right hand lane. Filled up with B20 (3.379 at the pump, 3.199 next door for D2), so I'll have those results at the next fillup.

well, assuming you kept going at the same fuel consumption, you could have gone:

125mL*1L/1000mL*1gal/3.785L*52.241mi/1gal = 1.7 miles before dieing at the side of the road.

wow. were you going for the 1300 club, I guess? that's tooo close for my comfort.

Winterized Diesel is here, or the gear oil in my tranny is a drag at 85w-90 for GL4 by Stalube.

BTW, Thank you jnecr for doing this for us in the name of science and education. I am fascinated by how the Top Guns are doing, I can only strive to do better.

Correction to my data. I have a 5 speed AUTO. Not manual. Not that it matters, 'cause I get crappy mileage 'cause I can't keep my foot out of it. But for historical purposes, I proudly drive a "slushbox."

I wanted to get to the closest station from home where I can get free Gold!

At one point you gotta know your car. I knew I could make it.

Wow, look at all the biodiesel users!

Today, I am joining the "Bio 800 mile club."

My last two tanks:

B20 blend, around town--
Oct 17 -- 867.4 miles, 15.5 gallons: 55.96 mpg
B100, highway, about 60 mph average, scary conditions--
Oct 19 -- 816.2 miles, 15.16 gallons: 53.84 mpg

Both calculations involved filling the tank from 5 gal cans of biodiesel and various other problems. Read more in the biodiesel forum, "Ernie's B100 adventure."

My second submission this month

Driver: Fix_Until_Broke
Miles: 945.9
Gallons: 15.969
Model Year: 2003
Model: Jetta
Tranny: 5M
Fuel Type: D2
MPG: 59.23 - a personal best

Still can't quite get to 60 MPG, but didn't think I could get to 56 or 59 either, but it keeps getting better so either my car is getting more efficient (26K miles now) or my driving is getting better. I never exceeded 65 MPH (usually 60) and kept my speeds at the posted speed limit. I also had a few trips for work to our other plant (40 miles each way @ $0.485/mile
) that is steady driving without all the stops. It takes patience that I didn't think I had, but given most of my driving, it really does not take me any longer to get anywhere.

One thing I noticed - I took the Jetta out to "stretch it's legs" so to speak to clean out the soot. When I stood on it (in 3rd @ ~1800 RPM) I expected some black smoke/haze as I had before. What happened was brown/tan smoke and a lot of it. I had to turn around to see if it was real, it became less and less each of the 4 times I did this. There was definately soot build up but it was not black - Is this a sign of complete combustion?

I filled the same way. First click, wait, then slowwww to second click. I've been trying to up the mileage but this seems a little extreme. I'll refill before the end of the month.
