The 10,000 mile, oil change interval is already predicated on using a full synthetic engine oil meeting the VW 505.00/505.01/507.00 specs, depending on the specific engine.
Change intervals can certainly be extended past 10k miles, particularly if using a more robust API, CI-4+ or CJ-4 spec oil. Since the advent of ULSD fuel, the limiting factor is generally the soot (solids), level and not TBN depletion. I'd recommend an upper limit of 1.0% for soot and use that to determine a maximum service interval.
