Sympathy vote, if you ask me.

I did test drive one, engine seemed fine. But I did not like the car. Still, I want to see it be a success in the market place.

Wow, this explains the $1000 discount VW is giving on new TDI's.

Got to give the nod to the domestic brand. I've had a few gas Cruzes for rental cars and agree that I would not own one regardless of the engine. I do, however, hope that they succeed and open the US market to more diesel offereings.

I'm guessing it really wasn't that hard for them to win the title seeing as of now they are the only U.S automaker that has a diesel sedan.
Hard to lose if your the only one in the category if you ask me.
They should have pinned it against the Jetta like they do everywhere else

FYI, It was chosen by the readers over a choice of 23 other models of passenger vehicles and SUV's. Not to be biased by my own choice of vehicle.

It's hard to fathom people liking something different, the entire non vw driving world are complete blithering idiots, don't get me started on slushbox drivers! :)

Its also funny when people comment before reading the article!

I didn't see a link to that poll here on TDIClub. Had it been posted, we almost certainly would have dominated it. Oh well.

The Passat did manage to get second place.

GM has mastered the art of losing......and it would not have surprised me if they came in second in a one car category. Remember when the GEO Tracker was compared by a car magazine to a five dollar plastic toy and the GEO Tracker came in second?

As for the VW Buick being part of the mix ....yeah.....ok......if Granny were voting :D .

Even as an owner of one you do gotta laugh it got more votes then total number of them sold LOL. I swear I didn't vote 365 times! :D

I think the heavy redneck truck crowd vote thrust us into victory and I'll take it!

Thanks! I like your cars too or I wouldn't be here. It would be much more satisfying to stroke my ego elseware. I'm following the new models closely as I'm gunning for a wagon of some sort hard in the next couple years for our other vehicle.
I think efilive and some simple tuning is as far as I'm going to go with the pesky emissions system remaining intact.

A few members already have it from fleece engineering over on our forums with great results. Along with increased power, it removes the intentional torque management off the line that makes the car feel a bit sluggish to some and prevents you from spinning the tires through the first couple gears.

There's 3 different tunes and one member who's been slowly hotrodding his up said he finally got a code for more frequent dpf regens then there should be so caution obviously needs to be taken if one plans to run the highest tune and stomp on it all day. Fleece does warn you of this.

Even if one doesn't like it's styling it does seem to be a boringly reliable car at this point after almost a year since release. You would think our forums would be clogged with all the people with problems flocking there but conversation is pretty boring revolving around just how much fuel you can fit before it's full, the proverbial "will running biodiesel make my car crumble to pieces and spontaniously burst into flames", and the "what do I do so my DPF doesn't become more constipated then an 80 year old man at a cheese tasting" threads.

There was one member with an emissions related problem and GM flew an engineer to his dealership to examine the problem right away before they did anything. Yeah it slowed things down a bit, but talk about wanting to get it right and nip any protential big issue in the bud. In the end it was just a faulty Nox sensor in the urea system.

No manual transmission = no sale.
Same here, but I did test drive a Cruze Eco 6-speed when car shopping, and still felt the Jetta was a cut above. More room in the back, better ergonomics and control layout (at least for me) a full size spare tire (the Eco had no spare at all) and I didn't like the cheap plastic gear shift in the Cruze that I felt like I was going to break.

Thanks for the updates. Really hoping that GM did this right and others will follow.
