I'm a new '02 VW jetta TDI MK4 owner and will hopefully attend. Would anybody who is attending be able to reprogram my CCM to enable windows roll-up from the key-fhob. I know it can be done, I just dont have a VAG cable. I also think i have a miswired stereo and would like to take care of that.

I can't make it. I took a lot of time off work for Fest, and I'm going to Road Atlanta for the TDI Cup and Petite LeMans races on the weekend of the 25th.

Looks like I'll need to replace my ignition switch...has anyone here done one before on a MKIV? I've already bookmarked some threads for the MKIII, but it would be nice to see if anyone else has experience doing one.

It's not too terrible. The hardest part is figuring out exactly what angle to turn the screwdriver to release the airbag. From there it's relatively easy.

You should bring the liberty :). I haven't had a chance to drool over one of those yet :D. You could also pop in Jeff's loaner CRD computer in and try his tune out. Be neat to compare them.
Ranger1 down in NC has already compared the two:D
The problem with the CRD's is the torque converter:( The front part where the springs are and the springs themselves are not heavy enough. Once they were released and started failing Chrysler detuned the engine and reprogrammed the TCM to make them last through the warranty period. GDE people did the original OEM tune and most likely the reduced torque tune so they have the knowledge to work around it with their tune to eliminate the dreaded "shudder" of the springs under certain conditions. they've also made the fuel guage linear in their latest tune. There's a new heavier TC available from Chrysler that's used on the latest VM diesels with 400 foot pound diesels in Europe but the TCM is encrypted so a tune is needed for that too:eek:

BTW I have a little used VAG-COM HEX+CAN dual-K& CAN RS232 unit that I can no longer use as my new laptop does not have a serial connection. So if anyone can use it I'm open to offers:) It's one of the new ones with the serial number in the dongle so it's legit.

I don't know if I'll drive my crd up or ride with my son??

Joe

bring 4 bills and get a tune and make a donation for the facility and have yourself a good time.

I will be there in the Beetle, gonna be fiddling with Sprockets b4v, and hopefully putting the finishing touches on the freshly un tooefed 5 speed swap.

NO MK3s on Ramps for me, kthxbai.

Compu, do not forget to bring your wiring pin tools please, I should have the connector shell and the reverse switch to install.

I would say either sprint or pp 520's. If you ever plan on more than just a tune, go with the 764's. However, chip and injectors will make your clutch slip. Just one or the other won't. Be careful though, the mod bug bites hard.....

Just made my reservations at the Best Value Inn just up the road & should be there bright & early for my tune. Can't wait to see what Jeff can do to my B5.5 wagon & to see a few other TDIs.

I never pass up the chance when beer's involved!! Not that I'm a lush....just like a good beer from time to time:p I plan on being there between 6-8. I'd give you a room #, but I didn't get one when I made my reservation. I know its got a jacuzzi, but that's about it.

How hard is it to fix the Hot starts? These past few days in particular they've been pretty bad.

..oh, and i suspect an oil seal is leaking (not surprising w/ over 200k) as i've noticed oil residue on my skidplate on the passenger side...and occasionally when parking uphill i notice a dime sized oil spot since i think it drips from the skid plate oil plug hole. Luckily there'll be plenty of experts nearby to help me w/ an official diagnosis :)

Jeff can fix your hot start issue. It's a programming oversight on the part of VW for that model year.

Scrapen - Yup, as Bob said, it's a factory glitch. My roommate's car is a 99.5 and he's also getting chipped on saturday to take care of it.

You, sir, are a saint!!! I love a good beer, & "lights" don't even pass the front door of my house.

So I made a hotel reservation for Friday night so I guess I'm coming. It's been busy enough here this week (thanks for the orders, all of you) and George has been on vacation (what am I doing wrong?) that I was on the fence but I want to come out. And I want a road trip.

I'm not going to get out of here until afternoon on Friday so I'll stop in NY overnight and drive the rest early Saturday. Expect me late AM.

I'm not going to bring a lot of random parts. So if you need or want anything order it on the site and choose "Local/GTG pickup" as a shipping option. And if you want to pay me Saturday that's fine, although it's much easier to do a credit card on the site beforehand. If you're not sure you're going to make it but want stuff if you do join us, then order and choose check/money order as payment. If you don't make it no worries, I can ship it next week or cancel the order.

See you Saturday!

I don't have the tools to do a compression check, I wonder if Whitbread does. I'm planning on staying in Batavia--don't ask, it's kind of an tradition with me.

Just looked on Google, that's about 6 miles from you. I'm not sure if I'm up for 4:00 AM but I could try.

Hey Peter-what time do you think you'll get in? There's a good restaurant right on Park Rd.just before Batavia Downs-Alex's Place. Leave when you wake up-I probably wouldn't be able to keep up w/ you anyway.....I may place an order for front pads and rotors for the A3.

I'll probably leave around 5:00. And I drive kinda slow, especially in Ohio. I have a personal goal to not get any speeding tickets.

I'll probably get in kind of late but thanks for the dinner info. Besides, dog is my co-pilot and I probably wouldn't leave him alone in the hotel.
