I've been going back and forth between golfs, gsws and A3s for the past six years.
I've been driving VW diesels exclusively since 95. My first was a 1980 Rabbit, followed by a 1982 caddy, then a 97 Passat ALH wagon bought from Jay Benford, which I had for ten or twelve years (it resurfaced recently in Asheville, looking like hell but still running). I got an 03 ALH Jetta wagon and drove it for a few years until I got a 2013 Titanium package A3. I missed my six speed manual, found a 2015 GSW 6M that was in nice shape down in Newport TN, so I went down there and got it. That's the one that got away. I sold it for a pandemic profit and bought another A3. I love the A3 trim and driving experience is fun, but then I got a chance to get a 2015 Golf for a good deal, high mileage, fixer upper but single owner. Spent about as much in fixing up as I paid for it, but it's turned out to be a good car for me the past year. Golfs are a bit short to me. I think the A3 even is a bit longer. And the GSW has the most room obviously.
I'd be tempted to sell my Golf if I had a good chance at a nice wagon like the one in this thread.
