I dont understand people pocketing money and also not turning in the car? I don't follow? Unless I'm misunderstanding.
Can you keep the car, get fronted money for a fix, and not do the fix?

So i will get between 24-30k?No , you can keep your TDI and "when "a fix is approved , you can have it fixed by VW, with what ever that entails since no one knows what the fix will do to your car, after it is fixed VW will write you a check for your troubles, you have to have the car fixed,I have no idea what happens if there is no fix. I think the only way you can keep your car and not go the fixed route is you give up your right to any money from VW that is part of the settlement. The settlement is broken into two parts , turn in your car and you get a payment that is made up from two piles of cash, trade in value on your car and lets call it pain and suffering , if you trade in your car you get a payment from both piles of money, if you do the fix , after it is fixed you get a payment from the pain and suffering pile but you keep your car with the fixed that VW has not said what it will do to you car. Hope that helps
People seem to breathing just fine in the other 49 states. Thank you for your concern."I understand the states that require emissions testing, I hated living in California for that and many other reasons."
Yes, breathable air is a *****, isn't it?
Easy decision for me !!I love my JSW, but apparently VW loves it even more. So much they're giving me $23k for a 5 year old car with 60k miles. Unless Elvis materializes in my driveway and offers to drive it for Uber, it will never be worth this much money. It was an easy decision for me and others that I know. My wife, however, is keeping hers (and pocketing the $6200).
Win/win.
Just open https://agrahamg.github.io/VWBuybackCalculator/ and fill in the blanks. If you bought your cal before 18 Sep 15, the number will be very close. So i will get between 24-30k?
Absolutely. $5100 minimum or half of that if you bought the car after 18 Sep 15. One catch. A fix has to get approved. So it's not totally solid yet.So I could get a free modification AND can pocket money?

I guess we will see if they can fix it...If not turning it in will be a good option....And for a 2015 - it's a 2 part fix - the first will get you about 2/3 of the cash, and the final 1/3 is paid when the last part is complete.
If you have a 2015 - I wouldn't worry too much about VW not coming up with a fix - except for the "test mode" , it's very close to what it was supposed to pass if it doesn't actually pass now.
I don't want to give mine up either .....................
.........But then I am turning down a buyback EQUAL to the amount I paid for the vehicle two years ago.
TOUGH decisions.
That just doesn't make sense. How can you evaluate whether you want the fix or not until after you know its impact? Seems from everything I've read, that while one CAN take the buyout basically now, there's no need to make a decision on buyout/fix for some two years.Hoping to make my decision at around the 2018 deadline, although I read in another thread that VOA will be decreasing the buy back value based on added mileage for those that want the buy back after the fix has been proposed.
VW will be adjusting the value of all buybacks for mileage. If you drive less than 12,500 miles/year, your value will (slowly) go up. If you drive more, your value will go down, though more slowly than in just about any other car.although I read in another thread that VOA will be decreasing the buy back value based on added mileage for those that want the buy back after the fix has been proposed.
I'm assuming that this will be an ECU flash issue, but last thing I want to know about the fix is if they're adding new components or if the DEF runs hotter causing faster wear. I know this is just speculation and there is no knowing what the fix will be like, it's just a matter of who wants to be the first to volunteer their car for a remedy that VW never really wanted in the original design? That just doesn't make sense.
