I just took a trip over to the vortex looking for a few cosmetic pieces for my semi wrecked Jetta. On the TEX home page I discovered this new W12 mid-engine GTI.

- VW claims a top speed of 202 mph
- 6.0l W12 12-cylinder twin-turbocharged engine mounted in the back seat of the GTI
- 650hp and 553 lb-ft. of torque

Its 6.0-liter twin-turbo engine is located lengthwise between the front seats, converting the traditional front-drive Golf into a classic mid-engined race car. A six-speed automatic gearbox feeds a maximum output of 553 pound-feet of torque to the rear axle. Such force catapults the GTI to 62mph in a scant 3.7 seconds. Stay on the accelerator, and the biturbo engine will carry the car to over 200 miles per hour, putting the GTI W12-650 in the rarefied air of dedicated exotic cars.

Probably gets amazingly terrible fuel economy and I am not fond of the looks but I bet it is a rocket.

If Volkswagen could shoe-horn a V10 into a Golf or a Jetta, I would be waiting in line to buy one.

Heck even the V6 TDI in a Jetta/Golf/Rabbit would "kick donkey"

Ooooh... stop it Bob, you've gotten me started on the drooling! A Golf (Country?) with a chipped-out and modded V6 TDI...

The ridiculous maw is probably needed for cooling. But, if you lose the silly wheels and tires, it would be a hoot. Heck, even a pumped up WR6 in a mid-engine layout would be fun.

Design exercise. They should do like Renault did and sell some. What Renault did was change the LeCar into the R5 Turbo, none of which made it here legally.

...and later the Clio into the mid-engined Clio V6. They even did a mid-engined V6 Nissan Micra, albeit that wasn't for sale.

If the engine is in the back seat, then what's under the hood already?
Personalized leather luggage as found in Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini. Then again, maybe child seating with 5 point harness restraint!
