Well, before you go buy a new heater blower motor because the old one is rattling something wicked, pull the cabin filter out and take a look at it. You might find that there are 5 acorn shells on the wheel that are going round and round and it might not be a faulty motor at all.

ask me how I know?

Every time I change the cabin filters on our 2 Beetles, I see that we have had some visitors sometime between the filter changes. I had an old Ford F100 that I used to haul fire wood that had the same trouble and the fan caught the leaves on fire one day on the way home. Luckily there was a pond on the side of the road that I was able to fill a couple of drink bottles with water to put the fire out so I could get home. Pulled the fuse and drove it until the summer was about over and sold the truck before it got cold again.

I just put a cloth soaked in peppermint oil under the plenum cover in my Golf. I kept finding seed shells between the passenger seat and the door. And the bugger ate a hole in my new plenum cover. I think it's a chipmunk.
