Noise under front middle when braking

I recently did a head gasket job (not because it was blown, I wanted to put in head studs for my new VNT 17) and ever since I have a metallic clicking/knocking noise under the front middle of the car when the weight shifts, i.e. when i start braking. I pulled the front suspension out at the same time and the cups don't seem to go all the way down to the towers anymore, though I didn't remember if they did, and the two other jettas I've seen have front suspension that looks identical. Any help is welcomed.

Have you checked the dog bone mount?

that was my guess but I didn't know it would be so audible. Checked it today and the bushing is gone! Thanks for the help!
