anyone running a small nitrous shot on a tdi?
i have some smoke in the upper rpms from 2-5th gear... so i know nitrous would help cool and make burn that unburnt fuel...
im thinking a 20-25 hp shot

my old daily driver was a 958hp@ wheel twin turbo 06 cummins.... that ran 11.1@125 weighing 7400lbs
the tdi needs some work...and speed

Your TDI will never, EVER be fast. The sooner you realize this the better, lol.

Nitrous as this point is a complete waste of time. Upgrade your turbo and tune and enjoy 210-230whp.

Run it and let us know how it goes. I got my kit sitting around from when I was spraying a 125 shot on my v6 buick lesabre t-type that I was thinking of using at some point when im not stock

There are cars on this forum running 11s 1/4 mile ETs. That's pretty quick for 2L diesel ;)

However for the amount of work to get there, one might argue to buy a different platform to begin with & then build your 10 second daily :)

Also, FWIW don't buy a nitrous kit with a "25-50-75 shot" expecting an equal hp increase on your TDI. It doesn't work like that. There are so many variables with modded TDIs that affect output gains. You really should do supporting mods first before adding N2O

im not looking to break any speed records.... if i wanna go fast i will take out my 9 sec diesel truck
im well aware of nitrous hp on a diesel... ive spent alot of time on dynos

my goal with the car is compound turbos with external gate- fuel, studs, intercooler... the nitrous is just because....lol

what "supporting" mods should i do?

You should learn about what you're trying to mod before modding it.

You will spend 75 to 100 bucks per hp to get your car up-to 300 whp. If you want to spend 10 grand and want to end up with an expensive 13 second car, contact a few vendors, propose a budget and see what they offer. Drop 5 to ten grand at a time and expect great treatment and some deep discounts. Refer back to the forum if you do the work yourself or if you want to monitor and quiz the shop you take it to.

If you really have a 9 sec. truck AND you know N2O on diesels AND you can wrench/fab then why ask what you already know?

Unless you are altering maps yourself I would suggest talking to one or several of the tuners on here with a realistic goal.
Saying you don't want to break speed records and then saying you want a compound build and "the nitrous is just because" doesn't make sense!

I have no idea what a EXTRENAL wastegate is but I suspect it deals with a lot of hot air.

Can you provide a picture of an EXTRENAL wastegate?

This isn't Vortex, but you do you have any idea how many newbies show up talking about twin turbos? It's like a plague.. Seriously, do it then post up and we'll all give you props. Unfortunately in 99.9% of the cases, it's a pipe dream.

Give the guy a break, it's amazing the arrogant attitude of some of the replies.
The ones about tdis never being fast (of course they can be, what's the reference anyway?), the wastegate quip and then the typo reply.... Grow up!
It's sad to see it on this forum.
He's just after a bit of advice. To me it sounds like he's pretty clued up and a twin turbo nitrous setup is just another project, for giggles. Fair play. Do I get a hint of jealousy? :)
If all the dreams (ideas) were dismissed we'd be nowhere. If its been discussed already just paste in the link to the thread.
I've asked plenty of daft/inexperienced questions on here over the years! Most of us have! But most replies are constructive, which makes this forum what it is (cue the tear jerking music ;) )

Good luck with the project.

Agreed. If you aren't interested in this guy's project or have nothing constructive to contribute, then don't post and move along.

Right, so, your truck weighs 7400lbs which is around 3.35 metric tonnes.

It's got 958hp and it runs 11.1@125mph. Right?

A full build on your engine, overbore to 2.1, 2566vk(lr possibly) turbo, custom injectors all the other supporting mods etc. etc.

You've gotta be up near 350bhp, add 100 shot too.

Then factor in the weight savings over your truck, cant find the exact figures but jettas are around 1.5 tonnes.

A diff and some sticky street tyres and you've got to be ball park as fast as your truck. And it'll be alot more fuel efficient. What mpg did you get in your truck 20's?

*sits back and waits for people to crap on his theory*

I'd do it if I had the coin. :) And welcome to the forum. :)

thank you... and im not coming off as arrogant...im new to the vw tdi.... but not to diesels...but give me some time with the tdi

for an update on my old truck... it now has efi live tuning and dynod 1002 hp... and new track time is 10.69 @129

i dont want the tdi to be as fast... not looking to make a race car... but i do want around 300hp @wheel.... i figured i would ask some on here that have been here longer for some advice.

and the nitrous is just for fun... cause lets be honest the stock turbo is out of air with the new tune.... and then add in heat and humidity

why is it hard to not need to set speed records.. yet have a fun/quick diesel with great mpg and safe to put my boy in?

the drag strip is fun... but i would rather try and take it to a road course.... im getting board with drag racing

300hp on a 2L diesel is no easy task. Takes a lot of work, time, and money. You will need serious engine mods, forged rods, crank girdles, head studs, ported head, ect.

And a common rail car is still new to us. Turbo will have to be completely custom, injectors HPFP, no idea.

If you're really serious about this...it will take time. The CR is still in its infancy as far as performance mods go. It's not quite the "small block Chevy" like the ALH/ASV is.

That said, I'm all for another nitrous build. Not many people on here have nitrous on their daily. I've run N2O since 2005 on mine. It does work quite well but it's not without risks ;)

If you don't want a trailer queen it might be a good idea to take a ride in a car with some of the mods you're pursuing. Might help give some perspective of what's possible with a full interior + creature comforts for your kid :)
