2012 Passat TDI SE
Hello everyone.
Have been lurking on this forum for quite a few months and might pull the trigger on a 2012 Passat TDI very soon.

It is quite a long drive from where I live but have obtained a great price. The MSRP is $ 29.410.00 and the price provided to me (in writing) is $ 26.398.00 plus tax, title (150.00) and dealer fee (599.00).

It is the SE with sunroof and comes with lip spoiler, wheel locks, first aid kit and mats. Will decide by latest tomorrow but from what I have seen this price is quite good, correct?

Was waiting for Mazda to bring their diesel over to the US but running out patients. Not being a big fan of the Adblue but at the end of the day I strongly believe that the Passat is a great value for its money - especially with the TDI. Hope not to get the HPFP problem. That is the only thing which worries me. But the chances are quite slim.
Already appreciate all of the great advices and information I have gathered so far. Great forum.

Delete the $599 "Dealer Fee" fluff and you got a great price.

Welcome Mario! Sounds like a fair deal to me. I'd try to get that $599 removed, but it's not terrible even if that doesn't happen.

All things considered and from my own purchase and what I have seen others post they paid, you are getting a decent deal.

Overall great value for a car in this price range. I hope you enjoy the Passat TDI as much as many others. Great car.

Yeah, I always start my negotiating with an offer, and explain I will not pay a dealer processing fee, transfer fee, delivery fee, or any other cow feces they add on, I five them my out the door price I'm willing to pay, let them sweat it a little. They need to sell it, more than you need to buy it.

Thanks everyone. Just got back from the local dealer to test drive it. Wow i am sold. The dealer did hardly want to adjust the price. So they lost a customer right away.
All in all i believe the above price is pretty good to start with. Will definitely try to talk them down.

Doc fees and delivery are pretty standard. VW charges us $770 to Ship/Rail/Truck each car in. Is that an SE roof/nav car? Vin#?

Meh, go to another dealer that has what you want... internet search is your friend. I flat out tell them what I'm willing to pay, ask them if they can do it. If they can't, I just leave my business card and say thanks, and walk out... and email the next dealer.

Nearly $2,400 below MSRP is how much above the dealers invoice? As long as both parties walk away with the knowledge that it is a fair transaction, the deal is a winner in my humble view.

HeHeHe....... VW has roughly $1100 in profit between invoice and MSRP, except on the Tourag, then it is $2500

Almost all dealers on making money on Volume bonuses and holdback when they hit their sales goals. Parts and Service are profit centers. The avereage salesman makes $75-$125 on a "mini" on an average VW Car deal. More money is made on Volume bonuses. 10 car, 15 car, 20 car, etc.....

If you are getting $2500 below MSRP, that is rougly $1400 below invoice. If your dealer hits his level 3 bonus, he would get $750 + $500 in bonus money. So you are getting a very strong deal. Your dealer must be pretty desperate to sell that car, or he is ripping your trade or making money on the %rate or the backend.

$26765 MSRP with delivery charge for my stripped 6man with no options... and a email, an internet link and a phone call on how close they could get to a competitor at $24667 was all it took, they came back at $24900. $125 closing fee. Did the deal that day.

They were kind enough to finance me with an 803 credit score for 10k at 4.9%. I took it... then decided a week later after all the papers were signed to just pay it off in full. No penalty.

No trade in.

I left money on the table, I know they do good volume and get kickbacks... everyone wins.

My VW Supplier price on my $33.6k MSRP SEL was $31.6k + TTL. $2400 under MSRP on a this vehicle is great, no matter how they break down the costs. I really doubt you'll find another dealer willing to go $3k off. If it's the car you like, buy it. They are not easy to come by for specific colors/trims.

Hi Brian,
it is an SE with sunroof - no navigation. Comes with mats, wheel locks, spoiler and first aid kit. Unfortunately I have no vin number. Several to choose from

For about $3000 below msrp I would still push for lower doc fees, but that looks like a pretty good deal. Some dealers around here are pushing upwards of $1000 in listed doc fees. I just bought a used truck and was able to get them to drop all of the doc fees.

That is what I am thinking. Will decide today if it is a go or not. That would be my first brand new car in my life.

As mentioned earlier the local dealer did not want to go down too much. Have a total of 5 different prices and this is by far the best. So well worth the drive. They also have the color combinations I am looking for. Either tungsten/cornsilk or night blue/cornsilk.
Thanks for all of your replies.

I'd get that offer in writing, in an email, and find a way to give them some consideration in the form of a $1000 deposit to hold it for you, today.

Just called the dealership to see if they can take off the dealer fee or reduce it and they are not willing to reduce the price any further. It is still 3,000 off the MSRP and will stay below 30,000 incl sales tax and financing for 5 years.

pulled the trigger

So I called the dealership today and made the deal. I am so excited. Will pick up the vehicle tomorrow. Have decided on the Tungsten with Cornsilk interior.
First thing to do is getting the windows tinted and might go ahead with changing some light bulbs to LED's. Eventually will need to get some nice rims on there.
Looking forward to get some additional information from this great forum.
