I'm a lurker here and vortex. This site seems like a great place. I've been a GM person all my life. But I've been very big on turbo's and diesel technologies. I've had a 87 Buick Grand National, 99 Buick Regal GS (supercharged), 04 GTO, 07 GMC Sierra Duramax, and a 09 Corvette Z06. But GM doesn't have a small diesel motor (they scrapped those plans a year ago).....
... so I put my Sierra up on the market to see if I can get a reasonable amount for it. A few offers are on the table for the truck and I've test driven a 2010 JSW DSG. The DSG wasn't as bad as I've read - but I'm still going for the manual. There is the perfect combo of options in a JSW coming to the dealership this week and it looks like I'll be a VW owner soon!
Looks like I'll need a copy of VAG-COM for diagnostic and possible upgrades ... I have a similar (but a little more user friendly) software for all my GM cars called HPTuners. I assume VAG-COM is pretty standard needs a windows laptop and a USB connection.
Other than that I don't plan to do too much to the car, and it seems like the best compromise of usability, acceleration, cost, and fuel mileage.
