Hmm. It seems that VW has finally come to recognise some of the things we have talked to each other about in these pages for some time: A new TSB dated Dec 8th 2000 or http://tech.vw.com/vwpdf/v200003.pdf touches on "non-winterised (clouded)" diesel, air leaks into the system and water in the fuel. They seem to endorse Standadyne Powershot fuel treatment as the cure for some of these ills. Grab this and file it.

The best thing about this TSB is the warning at the end!

"DO NOT use fuel additives containing alcohol! Alcohol WILL NOT address fuel clouding (gelling/waxing)conditions. Using alcohol will damage the diesel injection pump."

Notice that it say "will" and not "may" damage the diesel injection pump.

I just picked up a bottle of the new Powerserve diesel fuel supplement. The bottle states that it contains "no harmfull alcohol." I'm wondering if this might still be able to cause some damage.

CH4-CH2OH
