Welcome to the club, @DaJokr! There are some wiring changes that need to happen to get cruise working after a auto--->5sp swap.
The latter pages in this excellent guide from @boertje should help you figure that out. There's also a mega "kill da auto-wabbit" thread here that has probably every question on doing a swap asked and answered more than once. :)

You should get to know @northern diesel as he's up in your neck of the woods as well (Smithers area) and has a BEW.

True! Welcome @DaJokr
Wicked that you got yourself a Tdi. Just curious did you buy it at that Astra Auto near you ?
I live in Witset , between Smithers and Hazelton.
And manual swap is something I have definitely been dreaming of. Stoked for you.
It’s the one thing my wagon lacks- I use the Tiptronic gear selecting all the time - but when I drive my kiddos MT ALH I see what I’m missing out on.
I got a BEW with some mods - right now I am in the middle of a snow ball that started with a front end refresh and has turned into me now considering a rocker panel transplant from my donor car.
Our local wrecker is no more starting this week 😕
So I guess I’ll be coming to terrace for parts now.
Hit me up if you drive this way- also i got vcds and a bunch of tools now since joining this cult 😂

I bought it from Kelowna area. Flying down friday to pick it up and drive it back. Will be passing through your neck of the woods late morning/early afternoon. I will be on the lookout for a couple body parts myself lol. Message me a number and I can let you know when abouts I pass through.
As far as cruise not working, apparently its just a single wire to the ECU that needs to be figured out, the rest of it works. Just watch for a silver 4dr tdi with a duramax badge on the rear hatch 😂.

Chronic, recidivist VW-aholic here. I've finally acquired a TDI, after a long, long wait for a suitable candidate. I very recently purchased an A4, 2005 TDI sedan with the BEW PD that has 341 thousand clicks on the clock, one owner (bought new at Guildford VW in December 2004) and has lived in the Cariboo all it's life. It's been serially ridden hard and put away wet by a fella what don't care to look after anything, let alone a car but, in spite of all that it's in pretty decent shape for an Hecho en Mexico crate. Needs a lot of attention but, the price was right: $300.

What saved this car from an ignominious fate was a local import specialist. Always had it's fluids changed on time and by the book. Not much else by the look of things but, the engine/transaxle/hubs are crisp and tight. Virtually everything works which is frankly amazing.

First order of bidness is a steering rack, power steering pump and a timing belt — the latter more for my own sake. The timing belt was done ~60k ago but ... starting at zero. I shall be researching the recall saga, I suspect none were ever done which might prove fortuitous?

Cheers!

What’s going on everyone I’ve found tons of help on her so far I’m starting to post more and try to be more help. I’ve recorded a starting issue I’ve been trying to catch for months. If you seen how many 3 second videos I had of the dash you would think I’m insane but ladies and gentlemen I have finally captured now I don’t know how to post in on the forum to see if anyone else has had this issue. Starting issue.

2006 mk4 Jetta tdi manual wagon
Hello! Have wanted a manual tdi wagon for years and finally one came up that was in my price range. It's a 2006 mk4 jetta wagon with a manual transmission. It has almost 500000km (just over 300k miles) on it, and needs a RMS (and a few other smaller jobs that I've been chipping away at). It also came with a malone stage 2 tune with dynamic EGR, a colt cams stage 2 cam, and has been swapped to a SMF. I have seen receipts from the timing belt kit being done only 70k km (40k miles) ago so not worried about that yet.
Aside from the oil leak it runs and drives great so I'm excited to get it on the road. Been having some trouble finding info on doing the RMS on the BEW and if it is any different than the ALH since I can find a lot more documentation for the ALH.
Also trying to decide what else I should replace while I'm in there. My understanding is that the flywheel bolts are TTY so I have no choice with them but otherwise I'm thinking as long as things look good to just run it?
Any resources/videos or tips on the RMS job would be much appreciated. Planning to tackle it in a weekend this month.

RMS on BEW is exactly the same as the ALH; BRM is where things get....interesting (i.e., different).

As long as you're in there, I'd be taking a look at the clutch. Maybe get the SMF re-surfaced and put a new pressure plate and friction disk on there.

@rgray -- Welcome to the TDI Club

Double check the back of the engine block for oil coming down from above. Sometimes what may look like a Rear Main Seal leaking turns out to be the Valve Cover leaking.

The RMS installs fairly easily. However, be careful to not roll the lip. Also, it needs to sit in place for at least 24 hours before starting the engine to take on the shape of the crankshaft. Also, IMPORTANT, clean the sealing surface very good. Then, do not put any oil on it. The correct seal goes on without oil, period.

I suggest that you remove the Valve Cover and inspect the Camshaft.

Thanks for the recommendations to verify it's the RMS. Spent a few minutes looking over things and almost immediately it started looking like a misdiagnosis from the seller. It appears the crank position sensor is leaking really really badly when the oil is topped up to where it should be (especially when running). Looks to me like the valve cover might have a slight leak but not enough to warrant a fix immediately, but it does look like the oil fill cap is slowly leaking since there was oil pooled in the rubber cup around it so I've ordered a new cap. Ordered a new crank position sensor as well as all the little other things it needs which I'll be installing soon, and just got the rivnuts installed for the skid plate that came with it. If I've successfully identified all the oil leaks and other issues, once the parts arrive and are on the only thing left will be patching a couple coin sized holes on the rockers before I can get a safety.

Hi everyone,

I just joined the forum. I’m excited to be part of this community and looking forward to learning more, sharing experiences, and connecting with fellow TDI enthusiasts. I’m relatively new to TDIs, so any tips or guidance are always welcome.

Hello all,

Newbie here, just starting a new build. 1959 Jeep Willys wagon on a Toyota frame, solid axles siting on 35s. I have a 98 Jetta AHU and mating it to a Toyota 5 speed with dual transfer cases. I have the block torn down and it checked out clean enough for a hone job. I bought a rebuild kit with a remanufactured head from Parts Place Inc. I bought a mechanical pump off ebay and it should be here within a few weeks. I have built Hot rods and Jeeps before but no diesels. It started out to be a quick Suzuki Samurai build until I found the wagon, so I traded my Samurai for the wagon but after I had the AHU. I would like to keep it mechanical since I have a new pump coming but not totally dead set. I have done a fair bit of research but seem to be overloaded on direction so I thought I would ask the pros for guidance since the weight of this project has changed considerably. Thanks in advance, and I am looking forward to ideas. By the way, if you want to school me on my direction, I am thick skinned and can take it. Hahahaha

Bought a new used '02 Jetta Sportwagen for $1000, its in pretty good condition for 316k miles. Drove it 100 miles home. Needs a load of work, suspension/steering is worn out from Montana dirt roads. Intercooler is totally clogged from oil draining out the turbo, I noticed it yesterday. AC doesn't work, the usual. But it runs good, engine seems OK. So I'll get to work on it!

Check out your ac compressor solenoid valve. Most of the times thats why it won't blow cold. RKX is the best brand and will not crap out in 2 months like those other chinese parts.
