2009 Jetta 2.0 TDI and 2014 Passat 2.0 TDI / Ive got a MK5 bentley manual, message me for a free diagram
Hi all. I am new here and not very knowledgeable about cars under the hood. I owned and miss my 2015 Touareg TDI Executive that i put just under 200,000 of my happiest miles on. In Spring of 2023 I was facing more repair costs than I could deal with and I made the bad decision to trade it in for a 2022 Atlas Cross Sport R-Line. After driving that car for the last 18 months, I'm looking to trade it in and I'd really love to find a 2015/16/17 Touareg or Sportswagon TDI with under 100,000 miles. The Atlas is is not comparable + the mpg is not great (I get about 17 in the city and 20 on highway). The TDI was the perfect car for me and I'm enjoying the search. One of my questions for this forum is that I'm seeing a lot of nice looking 2017 Touareg Wolfsburg's that are just regular gas, but it's always been my understanding that these are completely different cars. I'm hoping to get a TDI and keep it for as possible. I drive short distances in the city mostly but a few times a year I drive across country and end up putting about 14,000 miles a year on a car. I am enjoying all the knowledge on this forum and I appreciate any input on this question. Thank you in advance and happy week !
I dont know much about the touaregs and their emission system but seeing how you're gonna be driving short distances in the city, I dont think it'll the perfect daily car for you once those maintenance bills come in again. Maybe just rent one for your roadtrips? You could also delete it saving you the headache of all that business but you might live in a state where they do emission tests. With great fuel economy comes great maintenance...

They made very few 2016s because I believe they were making those 2016's when they got caught so they already made a decent amount of them.

I was under the impression that VW did not pursue EPA certification of 2016/2017 model year TDIs. Now, Audi may have, but I was strictly speaking about VW.
The 3.0 had a more delayed finding the diesel gate software, and so they already had 2016 models out. My understanding is there were also a few 2016 Audi A3 2.0 tdis that made it out before everything was stopped.

Hello from Portland, Oregon. New owner of a 2001 Golf. 2 doors, 5spd, manual windows. I'm the 2nd owner. First fellow went up Canada to buy a German market import and brought it down south. Looking for folks in the Pacific Northwest to bounce ideas off. Nice to meet you!

Big howdy from Tennessee. Just inherited a beautiful 2005 VW Golf from my uncle (who is a member on the forums here, @ kcunniff ). 4 door, 5 speed TDI, with about 365,000 miles on the clock and still going strong. I'll try to upload a picture...

Absolutely love this car. 45 mpg on the long drive back from Florida. (40 mpg from indicated mileage, but this is fitted with R18 wheels, so I think there's an adjustment.)

Hello, new owner of a 2013 Jetta SportWagon 2.5L with just over 80,000 miles on the clock (yeah, that's really low). It runs great, not too many cosmetic issues that we've found so far. We took it for a couple rides yesterday and last night to see how it handled and saw an indicated 42 MPG by the time we made it home last night. I wasn't looking for a wagon as much as a Jetta sedan, but the deal worked out on this one and I can haul my two Huskies a lot easier than in a sedan. I'm skimming the forum about the diesel and more specifically the turbocharger's care and feeding (special shutdown procedure like old turbos to avoid no oil in the bearings?).

Welcome aboard! Is it a 2.5L or a 2.0? No special shutdown procedure for the turbo, although some owners will let the engine idle for a minute if about to turn the engine off immediately after high temps (highway rest stop), otherwise the turbo cools off very quickly. Use the right oil and you'll be fine. I'd suggest the wagon of that year is much better than the Jetta, so hopefully it will work to your advantage.

Yes, you are right, I looked up the VIN and it's actually a 2.0L, not a 2.5L. I really like the car a lot so far even if it's a wagon. :) Thanks for the response on the turbo, I just don't want to trash it accidentally. I've also been looking for why since I paired my Android phone with the radio it will switch from FM or SAT to Bluetooth Audio on it's own, apparently if I receive a notification on the phone. My wife found an article mentioning having a dealer update the firmware on the radio which may fix it, but haven't got that far yet.

Nice looking wagon! Also, if the radio ever gives you issues, I know alot of people are swapping them out. Me personally I got one of those Android tablet touch screen radios with carplay and app features. Very handy on long road trips.

I'm new to TDI Club. I'm looking at adding a 2001 TDI Beetle to my fleet of offroad vehicles toward the end of the month. The one I'm eyeballing is an automatic that has me a bit concerned. So I'm here to do a bunch of research before pulling the trigger on it.

The auto O1M’s are ok with regular maintenance but eventually will die. The good news being manual swaps are affordable and well documented on this forum.

I have a 2015 TDI Sportwagon. The yellow engine light came on and I had some sensors replaced but it came back on in 47 miles. I reset it and took a 1400 trip and the light went off after 427miles.I reset it a couple of times and then I ran LquidMoli thru 2 tanks of fuel and didn't seem to effect performance or the light. Light came on once again and took the same trip a few weeks later and the light went off in 407 highway miles. A third time it came on and it went off after 290miles of 80mph + miles. Something isn't right.
I am soon moving to SC and hope to remove the DPF / EGR mess. Meanwhile, any ideas?

Welcome! I believe it would bolt up and everything, the 033J is from a newer 1.8L vehicle, So the TCM might be a little different.
Everything bolted up but the starter. Ive gotten 3 different starters and none would work. Bolt holes different location , diameter, etc. Ive been trying to look up what starter i need going by the serial number on the transmission ( ntj ) do you happen to know a way to look this up to get correct starter. Orielys and my self cant figure it out. Thanks!

2013 Sportwagen
Hi, new member here in Oklahoma. I purchase a 2013 TDI Sportwagen about 10 months ago with 117K, up to 133K now. Have been servicing 2 older BMW's forever, 1 E10 & 1 E28. The E28 blew headgasket & I wanted something with better mpg as I now drive about 50 miles a day too & from work, so ended up buying this TDI. It has had the DPF replaced under factory program, but it needs another. I got to test drive 1 other TDI sportwagen before I bought this one, it was not as nicely maintained, had puddle of water in spare tire area & had the DPF replaced with a pipe, but I suspect the tune was not that great, it was noiser too. Just got an intermittant water leak from the lower passenger side of radiator, so took it to VW dealer to verify what it needed, since I am new to these. Wanted to pay dealer to do it, but will end up doing it myself. Dealer was good, but I am financially challenged, so I said no thanks to the repair. Thanks to the dealer evaluation, I learned also need a banjo bolt & seal for oil line to turbo and the coolant resivor has a leak. I have only changed oil &filter once with liqui moly right after I got the car. I'm a few K over on the oil change, will likely do that this weekend. Thanks for the good help & knowledge on this forum.

Hello,

I have had my 2013 Golf 2dr TDI (111,357 Miles) for about 6 months. I currently use it as a 3rd car as a few times a month I have to drive 200+ miles. Hopefully in the next couple of years I will be moving and not have to make the trip anymore. Car was purchased for the sake of modding it eventually. Currently want it to remain as stock as possible. Have done all of the basic refresh and reliability updates and as far as I can tell it is running as well as it could be. I am interested in throwing a State 1 style flash on the ECU and for the DSG as well just for the small added pep, but mostly aiming for improved mileage as that's the main use for the car currently. I looked through a lot of the new member posts, newb posts, so on and so forth. I wasn't able to find anyone that was intent on only chipping without it seeming like most were prepping for other modifications (bigger turbo, egr delete, fuel system changes, Hot/cold side modifications... so on and so forth.) I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a chip or tuner system that offered the ability to put flash some of the already proven "Stock +" style tunes for the car as it sits stock, but would offer the opportunity to add some of those larger upgrade parts later, or to have it tuned locally once some of those upgrades were more applicable to how I'm currently using the vehicle. Or, if someone could point me to a place where I could read through already existing threads/information, and see those recommendations.

This forum is amazing!

I pulled the trigger on a 80,000-mile, 2014 Sportwagen TDI 2.0 just last week. It is a salvage title vehicle imported into Mexico that seemed to have an impact on the driver's side quarter panel. Panel has been replaced. I'm in the process of changing out fluids and replacing some plastic pieces that are missing.

This forum has proved invaluable as I like to do whatever work I can.

Best advice so far- for noise coming from the suspension, check for loose bolts, supports, etc.

During the test drive before purchase, I heard rattling coming from the driver's side suspension. So, I insisted on the seller knocking $1,200 off the price- for that and some missing wheelwell guards.

Turns out the noise was a ABS/Brake line bracket missing a bolt. However, still have a "clunk" in the steering when turning one direction so I will probably have to replace the front strut mounts/bearings anyway. But at least not today!

Parts are a pain to find in Mexico. That's what Amazon is for, I suppose.

Thank you to all the members who contribute...

Hello, After many years, I was finally able to buy my coworkers 2002 manual Jetta. He only sold it because it threw a bucket and will need a new camshaft. I am fairly ignorant about these vehicles, just know that I've been wanting one. Thanks for having me.

Semi new here, joined back in November.

I have been lurking on this site for years (4 years) when i got it in my head that i wanted a TDI. Took me about a year and a half to find the car i wanted and it ended up being sold by a neighbor of mine. This site has great info and members and its given me the confidence to take on maintenance and fun projects on the car.

My mk6 TDI is at about 135k on the odo and hope to make it last forever .

Hey all! I'm pretty new around here and wanted to introduce myself to the community

I bought a 2006 MK4 TDI BEW Jetta Wagon a year ago in Cape Breton, and drove it back to Halifax on a quarter tank of fuel.

Since then, I've done a lot of repairs to almost everything except electeical, all kept stock OEM, all according to the Bentley manuals.

I also found an older Wagon from 2003 ALH, better body and interior with an automatic transmission which I plan to swap next season.

I'm curious how many wagon owners might be in the maritime provinces. Is there any way to post a poll to get an idea of how many are on the road currently?

Cheers all!

Hei there... I'm on the left coast, but my Wagon is an '03 as well, but with the manual. 716K km and still going strong. I love the car and that sweet 1000km+ to a tank. I still consider myself somewhat novice, especially around the technical stuff around the engine itself to a degree. Very familiar with general maintenance, etc. You'll find lots of great help and info here.
