hi! new here. I have a 2013 VW Jetta Sportwagen TDI.. manual transmission.. bought it maybe three years ago... its got about 50,000 miles on it but some dings and scratches that were on it even when i bought it. nothing major. How much would you say i could get for it if sold on my own... dealers offered me hardly nothing for it.. the coil springs are being replaced to quick struts.. but other than that theres nothing wrong with it. its got a clean title.. paid off ..
Welcome! I'd say check the market in your area and see what others are going for and gauge off that. Dealers will always offer you less than what they are worth.

Anything is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay you for it.... find the right someone, and it's worth more that what the dealer wants to give you.... remember, the dealer is looking to make money on the flip as well.... it's not like they are buying it because they love and want it.

Hello, I just recently have stumbled upon this Group!!
I have own my 2005 tdi VW Jetta for 3 years now, this is my first TDI but my second VW Jetta. Let me say TDI is not for the weak!! She has been the best car i have ever known, but she was neglected for 4 years before I got her. So we are going thru the trials of everything not working lol.
Just one thing after another!!! The only thing i have not had to replace yet is the transmission and engine!! *Hope I never have too!!*
But the goal is to slowly upgrade and get her a super nice daily!

I stubbled upon this group in search of solving some issues I can not get figured out!! I hope I can find some answers here!!

Hi folks!

I am about to pickup my first Tdi sunday, I wanted something to teach my son to drive stick. I found a 2006 Beetle Tdi (PD) with manual with only 75k miles on it as a mechanics special, has a broken in tank fuel pump and I'm sure I'll find a few more things wrong with it. I have to trailer it back to my place for repair.
I think once my son is driving he'll be taking my toyota so I'll be driving around in the bug!

Hey all. Retired, long time lurker to the forum...since 2014 when I bought a 2010 Jetta TDI Cup Edition. Sold that back to VW during Diesel-gate and bought a 2016 Audi Q5 TDI, which we really love. Wife just went back to work as a fitness trainer and not wanting her to add miles to the Audi, so bought her a 2014 Jetta Sportwagen TDI...time to start tinkering!

Hey ... my name is Quintin.

I've always loved the VW Jetta Sportwagon and wanted it in a diesel as I'm a mileage enthusiast and I like things that last. Well, after my Focus was taken out by a deer, I got the opportunity almost 3 years ago now. I picked up a 2011 Sportwagon TDI with 65K on it from a local dealer. Fully loaded, just like the configs I used to do online when pricing them out new.

Her name is Gerdie.

Now to learn what I can in order to keep Gerdie on the road for 300K - 500K miles. I like to tell people I'm an embarrassment to a long line of master mechanics. My dad knew everything about cars. His brother knows more. Their dad owned a garage and raced stock cars. As a punk kid, I just was not interested. Dad forced me to help, though. I learned a lot anyway. As an adult, rarely have I turned my own wrenches, though.

Now, though, I'm super interested in learning everything I can about this car. Time to raid dad's tools. Well, since he passed 6 years ago, their really my tools but, you know, they will always be dad's tools. Besides, there at Mom's house.

Off to start reading through the links at the start of this thread.

Start with doing the timing belt and dsg service if they haven't been done.

The timing belt (and water pump) was done by my mechanic last year.

I'll research the DSG transmission. Could you give me more specifics on what action(s) need to be performed?

I'm assuming its auto. The auto transmissions are DSG and require service every 40k miles? Not sure what it is in the US. If its a 6 speed, then you have their "lifetime fluid".

Hello TDI Club, my name is Xander. I just got my first TDI last week, a 2000 Jetta w/ 5 speed. I currently own a non running N.A. 1982 Diesel Vanagon and have owned a handful of air-cooled VW's as well. I had my Civic totaled a few weeks ago and finally took the plunge on a long time dream of owning a TDI. The car currently has 128k and had TB, WP, IP and all tensioners done in July. Overall a clean car for 24 years old, but the interior is not perfect.

Side note, I would love to learn how people refinish or improve the look of the plastic trim the gets the soft paint like coating scratched off.

Also looking into custom fit seat covers rather than an interior swap, want to preserve what is there. If you have some you love, tell me!

Thanks!

Hello! Newbee here! I have known about this site for about 2 decades. I used to have a 2001 Golf TDI 5sp man, stage1 larger injectors and stage 1 tires and rims upgrade. I ended up donating the 2001 Golf TDI when it had 325k miles. It still ran well as I drove it up to the flatbed in Dec 2019. I got some good info from reading the threads here which helped me maintain that car. My daughter caught the TDI bug from me and got a used 2011 Jetta TDI sportwagon in 2018. She moved to a state that is not DPF-delete friendly and I'm trying to sell the 2011 TDI Jetta for her. I have been trying to do the $20 account upgrade so I can post pictures, but I keep getting a msg that says Paypal is not working please try another time. But the donation paypal button seems to be working OK  . Am I doing something wrong? Is there some secret squirrel code to pay for an account upgrade? Can someone help out a newbee?

Welcome aboard! The soft touch plastic is most often dealt with by scrubbing off the peeling soft coating, or by replacing with OEM Asian market parts, available from a variety of sources. No rec's on the seat covers, other than you can pull the actual seat fabric from a salvage car with a good interior (or often buy the seat cover interior you want from someone parting a MkIV). That keeps the car OE, but gives you a "new" interior.

Welcome! I believe it would bolt up and everything, the 033J is from a newer 1.8L vehicle, So the TCM might be a little different.

Not sure if different coding would be needed or if you would need to get the TCM as well for that transmission. I'd see what other people chime in to see what they say. If anything, Id try over at VWVortex.com since thats a more gas engine focused forum so people may have a better answer.

Hi all. I am new here and not very knowledgeable about cars under the hood. I owned and miss my 2015 Touareg TDI Executive that i put just under 200,000 of my happiest miles on. In Spring of 2023 I was facing more repair costs than I could deal with and I made the bad decision to trade it in for a 2022 Atlas Cross Sport R-Line. After driving that car for the last 18 months, I'm looking to trade it in and I'd really love to find a 2015/16/17 Touareg or Sportswagon TDI with under 100,000 miles. The Atlas is is not comparable + the mpg is not great (I get about 17 in the city and 20 on highway). The TDI was the perfect car for me and I'm enjoying the search. One of my questions for this forum is that I'm seeing a lot of nice looking 2017 Touareg Wolfsburg's that are just regular gas, but it's always been my understanding that these are completely different cars. I'm hoping to get a TDI and keep it for as possible. I drive short distances in the city mostly but a few times a year I drive across country and end up putting about 14,000 miles a year on a car. I am enjoying all the knowledge on this forum and I appreciate any input on this question. Thank you in advance and happy week !

Unfortunately, 2015 is the last year VW sold TDI vehicles in the United States.
OK, this helps me greatly ... I wrongly assumed that TDI's went until 2017. So I'm looking for 2015 or older. The pricing seems about equal between the 2017 Wolfsburgs I see for sale vs the 2015 or older TDI's and I'm wondering if I should even be looking @ the 2017s. Thank you!

Are you now prepared for the huge repair costs that could be awaiting you? I always wanted one of these with the V10 tdi. But after reading here about them and maintenance costs, no. Seems you have experienced this once already though.

Hi, I am. I bought my 2015 with 6000 miles on it and did not have any significant repair costs until the end. Looking back, even those were not that bad, I just was not in the position @ the time to keep putting $$ into it. I just spoke with a friend who is a mechanic and now have a good understanding of the TDI vs Gas comparison and I'm no longer looking @ anything but TDI's. Thanks all and happy week.
