New to me TDI Cup = some crappy aftermarket CAI

I just picked up a black TDI Cup DSG. I love the car so far. It's lowered, has matching black rims, emblems, and grill, DPF gone, and tuned.

Does anyone on here know who it may have belonged to? I'll post some pics if need be.

The real reason for my post however is that the previous owner put some sort of crappy aftermarket cold air intake on the car. The intake looks like crap and it's just zip tied to something under the hood. I'm concerned that the filter he has on there isn't really filtering the air adequately. With that being said, would you recommend I try to find a stock air box and go back to that, or buy some sort of aftermarket kit that can actually perform well?

If I should go back to the stock airbox (which I would have never removed in the first place) where should I look for one?

Get that piece of trash out of there. If it's an oiled K&N, it will damage your MAF. You could try a junk yard. 2009 and later should be like what the dumb ass PO removed.

If you don't feel like hitting up the junkyard..I am switching to this myself.

Just order it with the pro dry s filter which uses no oil, weather there is any performance benefit I have no idea..just thinking turbo sound will improve maybe a little.

This will still use your stock intake to get the cold air in, not sure how much of the stock intake he removed.

Are you able to post pics?

I noticed a mileage difference with this intake and their exhaust. I did the AFE cai and rear exhaust as well to get rid of the muffler, mainly for the two nice tips that it has.

Seriously, don't install any of that after market garbage. The OEM intake will flow more air than you will ever need and as a plus will prevent you from hydro locking your engine if you should go through deep standing water.

I went through water that came up above the headlights on my 2 slow gasser, and the design of the OEM intake prevented me from ingesting water and killing my engine.

I thought, "crappy aftermarket CAI" was required on the packaging of all CAI products marketed for TDIs?

Everyone says this however the stock airbox sucks up water from the rear of the engine near the turbo, and then the front grill opening and the rear bottom of that snorkel is open to engine room air. I mean no is dumb enough to drive with the hood getting water over it I would hope lol.

I'm going with the AFE kit myself, will probably make little to no difference but I'm making a little bit more power then stock, so it could.

I also have previous dyno pulls that I can compare to anyway.

I had an AFE on my BEW. I don't think it made any difference in power, but at least I could hear my 2260vk a bit

Factory is sort of a CAI on our cars, or RAM intake...the AFE intake design still leaves that portion on the car.

If it does anything is probably add some sound, which to me is something I am looking to do, hear the turbo a bit more.

But yes most CAI do nothing over stock.
