Good evening everyone, I recently acquired an ‘04 Passat wagon tdi. I bought the car knowing it had no power, it has had the timing belt and balance shaft delete recently done but I guess when he out the car back together he missed something, so far I have pulled the Intercooler hoses off and checked them, checked the vacuum lines and they are all new, tandum pump is new, I’m only questioning the n75 valve. The pic is of me trying move the car and it’s extremely lethargic. Does that look right?

Make sure you have enough vacuum and that the vacuum lines are connected correctly

We're going to need a bit more to go on. All I see in the screen shot is an acceleration from around 900 rpm to 1800 rpm, with the N75 decreasing from 80% to around 40% as the MAP climbs from around atmospheric pressure to around 1600 mbar. Nothing real earth shattering to me. The turbo is not fully spooled at that point, but it should be starting to put out some torque.

Can you describe "no power" a little more?

Does it run smoothly or is it missing?

Does it smoke?

Any codes?

Does MAP actual track specified reasonably?

Have you checked the timing of the belt since it was recently replaced?

Have you checked the cam?

I would not jump directly to the N75 valve. You can check that by running the boost control sequence. You should see the actuator move as the N75 command varies from low to high.

the car runs and idles perfectly, eas to start, cam looked good and timing is good. The only code it has is a TCM communication error. It doesn’t smoke , I put my vacuum pump on the turbo and the arm moves smooth and holds at 25 inches of mercury. The car just barley wants to move when I depress the accelerator, it will gradually get up to speed.

The tcm communication code is likely your problem. If the transmission is in limp mode it defaults to third gear and is gutless off the line. Try to communicate with the tcm with your scan tool.
I had that happen on mine, the tcm was shorted internally to the can line on mine. But it can also be power or ground to the tcm, as well as water in it. Its located under the passenger side footwell and if the sunroof or battery tray leak, it often gets into the tcm and causes problems.

+1

If the TCM is in limp mode, all the gears should be highlighted on the dash, but using VCDS to open the TCM is best.

As Mozambiquer said, it's likely water. If you can't communicate with the TCM and don't find evidence of water check the CAN wires.

I have a working TCM you can try from when I swapped mine. PM me if interested.

I actually know that there are a few places in the passenger side footwell where there are wires factory spliced and they corrode, I had to splice new wires and cut out the corroded wire and that fixed his B5. I’m actually tackling that now because I figured I could fix that code lol

Well the reworking worked, no transmission communication codes however no luck, the car is still being a dick. I’m going to try a new MAP Monday when I get off work.

Can you communicate with the TCU using VCDS? Go to the TCU then select advanced measuring values and select a few.

Is the transmission starting in 1st now?

Does the dash still have all the gears highlighted?

Not trying to be argumentative but why do you think the MAP needs to be replaced? I would not suspect it based on the image in your first post.

Throwing parts at these gets expensive quick and will only make you hate them for no reason. What you need now is logical sequential troubleshooting.

Were you able to connect to the transmission with vcds?

Since you have VCDS and a VAG vehicle it is recommended to use autoscan or the actual modules instead of generic OBDII.

When you start VCDS choose control modules, then select 02 Transmission, and then Fault Codes. You will get better information that way.

Better yet, at the main menu select autoscan, then choose 3B-Passat (or something like that) in the drop-down menu on the left side. Copy and paste what comes up into a post and we can look at it. You can delete any identifying info like VIN etc. Actually for starters you can post only the engine, trans, and CAN gateway, as radio, central convenience, etc. is not that useful yet.

Never mind my previous post. Overcome by your last post.

I'd save a copy of that autoscan then clear all the codes. It looks like the TCM communication issue has been resolved as it's showing up as intermittent in instruments and CAN gateway, but is gone from engine. However, it won't hurt to get that code out of the gateway and go from there.

My question is why is this popping up in the ABS section if im not getting any errors in my Trans section?

So I went into every module and cleared all of them, I started the car and it runs/idles perfectly. Unfortunately it’s still powerless when I tested it. Thankfully tomorrow I’ll be able to pull all of the Intercooler hoses off my my sons b5 tdi and I’ll try that. That will eliminate faulty sensors and all that fun stuff. I’ll update tomorrow.

If that code was before you cleared it in the module it may have been a carryover from before. If the code is no longer active it will show as intermittent for a while (or sometimes a longer while approaching eternity), or until it's cleared.

I just drove the car around and when I first start out it’s super slow like it has no power in 1st gear and then when it shifts to 2nd it seems fine, still like it’s missing some power but it gets up to speed, I noticed that the exhaust is disconnected under the car, does this car need any back pressure?

Doesn't need back pressure.
Whats the torsion value at?
How much vacuum from the vacuum pump?

Torsion value will be in group 4 iirc its the timing and too far negative will make it sluggish off the bat.also check group 13 at idle.
Vacuum you check with either a vacuum gauge or a mityvac works well too, check it at one of the vacuum lines coming from the pump to the vacuum reservoir or n75 valve it should be a minimum of 25in/hg vacuum there.
