Hello everyone. I'd like to introduce myself as a brand new TDI owner. Yesterday I picked up my Platinum Grey 2010 Jetta Sportwagen. The only options were the panoramic sunroof and all weather mats. Originally they wouldn't take less than sticker price, but they dropped the price by $750 when I told them I was going to get a GMC Terrain instead :)

Anyway, I love the car so far. Looking forward to great gas mileage (already 34mpg in mostly city driving) and a fun car.

Congrats PoliPino - this is a good sign! Most dealers I've spoken with are firm on MSRP (the "market adjustment" is for walk-in customers) but willing to sweeten the deal with window tinting or other dealer extras to close a deal. It can only get better as more TDIs show up on the lots and we get closer to the holiday season. I can almost smell the diesel fumes now!

Just curious...I'm assuming you bought your JSW from dealer stock? I can't imagine you got this discount if you placed an order.

Thanks. From what they were telling me a month ago they were charging $1000 over, but now are just holding firm on MSRP. Now that they've done it for me they'll probably start discounting as more come in.

Not from stock on the lot at the time, but a vehicle that had just landed in Houston. Apparently when I told them I would like that car, they were able to get the car on a truck in Houston, instead of the normal Rail car trip to Chicago first, getting the car here earlier.

Well done PoliPino! I was able to get a very similar deal on a factory order which I should get in a few months.

Dealers have plenty of wiggle room on these cars. With the $486 holdback ($ the dealer gets from VW for selling the car) dealers can drop below MSRP and still make plenty.

Hey brg126,
Out of curiosity did your salesperson reveal the holdback amount during your purchase and did you obtain that figure through your own research?

Is there anyone that can verify this as being accurate . .. . it would be a nice to have this info during my upcoming negotiations!! Thanks in advance.

I ordered the pricing report from consumer reports before placing my order. It shows the invoice vs. MSRP for the car and all options, as well as the dealer holdback. The dealer confirmed it when I mentioned it.
