Well boys I finally finished it. It is made out of the stock sunroof panel and molded fiberglass. Lots of sanding, then covered with a art supply called flock, fuzzy stuff that is in your glove-box. As you all may know this is the 2nd one around, the first one was not on a 45 degree angle like this is, plus I bought autometer lunar series vs the junky, noisey, vdo's I had. Do a search on my old ones and pics, hope that everyone likes it, and if not that's ok too. Love some feed back. Sorry about the pics, I can't get them to be viewed without clicking icon.

Take a bow buddy... That is excellent work. I am an OEM kind of guy, but that is a mod that I will consider when I get my 150 PDI. If I ever get the pleasure to meet you in person the first 2 rounds are on me. Words can not fully convey my positive impressions of your efforts.

beautiful! I have put my dash gauge project on the back burner for now, but I will complete it soon. Anyway, you should come to the next timing belt gtg. Should be soon as I am rapidly approaching mine. I'll let you know!

I second that motion! If you had the inclination and time, you could make some coin from a lot of people here that would love guages like that. I personally don't have the know-how to do a job like that but would love something that looks that clean and neat. Excellent job!

looks sweet but i have 2 questions in case i try to do this also how are the electrical bit routes through the opening sunroof mechanism..i would guess the would be ut the back of the panel into the headliner/ false roof..that must suck fishing them in there right? did you have to drop the headliner?..do they get caught on the sunroof and get pinched when it retracts...?..and does that view work? well i'm tall and drive with the seat allthe way back and really upright.next time im in the car i'll check out that postion...
but it looks sweet to me so far..cool
i'd like to do a newbeetle style 3 or 4 guage pod that is fitted to the dash above the air vents etc for a golf or jetta...

It does look like a great job. I 've looked into doing that but thought the gauges would be too awkward to look at while driving. Maybe I'll barrow a pod and take another look at it.

Again great job!

Wish I could view them on this computer at work but it won't let me.
I will just have to wait until I get home. Darn the bad luck! I remember the last time you did this and it was cool then.

therabbittree,

I went through the headliner but close to the windshield, across, and down the pillar. remember I have airbags in the pillar, so didn't do the easy pillar mount. It does not get pinched, no where near any moving parts. As for height, taller you are the better. I have them fiberglassed more on a 45 degree due to I'm short, my old pods were more straight and catered to long leg design. For the looking up part, your only glancing, plus your rear view is there so it's second nature to look up, no it does not get it the mirrors way.
It looks great with that flock on it matches my interior. In the pic it looks a little dark, my camera if I flash it it washes out the picture.

For the rest of you, thank-you. i'm not sure if I'm going to put this old pod up for sale with the vdo vison's as a package. any intrest?

i see i must have been half asleep when i posted i thought for so crazy reaond you put thenm on the slide back inside cover for the sunroof ha..where you have them makes sense..i don't have a sunroof in our 2001 golf gl..so i put ours in the cubby hole block off plate area etc i think i'm going to do the twin pods on either side of the steering wheel also... right no i just have preturbo egt, boost, and volts..
i'd like oil pressure and temp too
cool looks nice is your head liner dark grey? i thought most headliners were white?..or off white?..our black interior car has white headliner. i'd prefer a dark color my self..

therabbittree,
I have BLACK seats and carpet and lt.grey for headliner and sunroof abs panel. Pic looks a little darker, had to do it with no flash. With flash it washed the photo out.

Nice work. Glad to see the NJ crowd putting some good mods together!
