NY Times article web page shows the difficulties of trying to satisfy everyone.
It changes the rules by dividing vehicles according to class/size but continues to have DECREASED CAFE for larger vehicles.
If they read my posts
they would see a better proposal: make it higher cost to own the larger vehicles, but flatten it out a bit for the more fuel efficient ones. i.e. don't reward bigger size, just reward better fuel efficiency within each size group. If one really needed such a vehicle for business (the original intent of light trucks), you can still get a tax deduction for the cost of its operation, including the new gas guzzler tax that one would need to pay.
Its also silly not to include vehicles like the H2 and Excursion ("Ford Valdez").
There is a comment period so this is our chance to change policy by writing to the White House.
Cheers
